Cass & Anna - The Educakers
It was a busy day here yesterday at Educakers HQ; Cass at the HT conference with @schoolsallexcel ; our EYFS and KS1 leads @KarinaKenning & @MissBunyan1 leading our 'Rethinking KS1' training for practitioners in the South East; and I had a great time joining @LisaWorgan for the Teaching WalkThrus online network meeting (even though I was embarrassingly late)! It was interesting to think about ADAPT as a framework when using the Walkthrus. As a school, we've worked hard on consistency of routines and techniques and use the Walkthrus to do that and align people's understanding. ADAPT, allows for some tweaks and changes. We've managed to maintain consistency as a school, whilst still adapting the Walkthrus' techniques for the phases, ages and the stages of children, we teach. We've done this through staff meetings, where the steps of techniques have been agreed and written down for everyone to refer back to. We're looking forward to doing more work with the Walkthrus clusters next year as part of our SDP. @teacherhead @olivercavi @MattTeachCoach @WALKTHRUs_5

There is a female equivalent of formal dress with a tie. Why is it only men required to dress in such a way? And why are girls required to wear a tie? Fascinates me.

Joining Teaching WalkThrus isn't just about accessing resources for professional development. Its about being part of a community of schools who reflect deeply on pedagogical practice that impacts the learning of young people in classrooms around the school. Today was just an example of this - our @WALKTHRUs_5 Summer network. All member schools are invited to join these virtual events, hearing case stories from school around their Implementation journey and discuss key parts of the toolkit with colleagues. Not yet a member? Come and find out more! And in our latest events you can sign up to our Autumn network which takes place on 17.11.26. @teacherhead @MattTeachCoach @olivercavi

Given the confusion about inclusion, attention should be given to the Index for Inclusion. Launched in 2000 it is available in over 40 languages and is used across the world. share.google/Gijv4ZbCvCWRZw…

@helenrey @dare_richard Do read these, Helen. And you'll discover Ausubel and the whole meaning-making phenomenon, seemingly only now being rediscovered.

Teacher prep should be grounded in evidence but there is a phrase in medical education which often gets aired at welcoming lectures to medical school: “50% of what we teach you over the next five years will be wrong, or inaccurate. Sadly, we don’t know which 50%”.
Anna Stokke@rastokke

"If a medical school knowingly taught future physicians treatments that had been disproven decades ago, we would not call it academic freedom. We would call it malpractice. Yet in teacher preparation, programs can continue teaching methods that contradict the best available evidence" This excellent article by @HeatherPeske focusses on reading, but the same is happening (maybe even worse) in math education. nctq.org/research-insig…

Why do so many schools use Teaching WalkThrus for their pedagogical professional development? Because improving teaching isn't about finding more ideas. It's about helping teachers to: •  Understand what effective practice looks like •  See it clearly •  Practise it deliberately •  Refine it through coaching •  Embed it over time @WALKTHRUs_5 breaks complex pedagogical approaches into clear, visual, five-step guides that support meaningful professional learning and lasting change. Simple. Practical. Research-informed. @teacherhead @MattTeachCoach @olivercavi

Discovered my father's self-assembled curriculum when he had to learn English, architectural vocabulary, and the general arts scene. These early post-war publications are fascinating. Articles on John Piper, Ben Shan.
