Including when dropped out last in both the Lanzarote Hurdle where he got 2nd the only horse to come from rear and at Musselburgh where nothing made ground from rear all day. He looks the class angle in this race and a repeat performance of his Kempton 2nd in the big race will win this with a decent pace forecasted with Marsiac and The Four Sixes likely to push it. The booking of a resurgent Richie McLernon a bonus who has won on this horse twice before he comes here after a great win on Johnny Who at the festival 1/1 I would have him closer to 3/1 tomorrow 5/1 good value 🤞💥 2nd in the Lanzarote at Kempton 2 atarts ago ⬇️🎥

14:00 - William Hill County Handicap Hurdle (Premier Handicap) (GBB Race) Distance: 2m 179y Selection: Karbau Odds: 9/2 Bet: Win Each Way Shout: Joyeuse Odds: 10/1 This is always one of the most competitive handicaps of the entire week and it usually takes a horse with genuine graded ability to land it. With that in mind, I’m siding with one who already looks like a graded performer dropping into handicap company - Karbau. He was down the Mullins pecking order when lining up in last year’s Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, where things didn’t go to plan and he finished well beaten. However, the yard persisted with him in strong company afterwards and he ran much more encouraging races at both the Aintree and Punchestown Festivals in Grade 1 company, which hinted that there was plenty of ability still to come. He returned to action this winter following a break and was beaten at Naas in January, but the performance itself was actually very encouraging. He finished runner-up in the Grade 2 Limestone Lad Hurdle on heavy ground, which rated as a career-best effort and suggested he had come back a stronger horse this season. That run looked very much like a prep run before a handicap tilt, and the drop into handicap company now could prove key. His mark of 150 isn’t overly lenient, but it still leaves the impression there could be further improvement to come from a horse who hasn’t had many opportunities outside graded races. The biggest indicator may come from the jockey booking. Paul Townend rides Karbau, and this is notably his only handicap ride of the entire week. Townend rarely gets involved in handicaps these days as he is normally reserved for Mullins’ graded runners, so when he turns up for one it tends to mean something. His decision to ride Karbau over other stable entries is a significant signal. There is also strong historical precedent in this race. Willie Mullins has won six of the last eleven runnings of the County Hurdle, with five of those victories ridden by Paul Townend, making the combination one that commands serious respect here. Karbau’s action also suggests softer ground would suit, so any rain arriving before the race could be a positive. Given the way he travelled and finished at Naas last time, he looks a horse who could easily step forward again in the spring. At the top of the market, he has the profile of a potential graded horse competing in a handicap, which is often the key ingredient required to win this race.
