Okay, I'll bite: are cartoonists simply not allowed to caricature Zack Polanski because he's Jewish? All of these pictures look recognisably like him, but they are also antisemitism? What does a caricature of Polanski look like that isn't antisemitic? Are there any examples?

@Tom_Rowsell I don't, but I don't care for spuds either. I find old world tubers and roots much tastier and more exciting than spuds. Root mash - delicious. Mash potato - new world slop. Generally, if I eat potatoes, it's as a guest, or something's being served with chips

My brother cannot digest potatoes. I suspect I would do better on a potato free diet. Andeans have adapted over thousands of years to digest these tubors of the poison nightshade family. They were introduced to northern European diets very recently (1700s in some areas) Do any of you find spuds hard to digest?

New paper out today in @NatureComms from @gokcumen37392's group presents evidence for selection for higher number of Amylase copies in Indigenous Andeans. It looks quite interesting and I need to read it more deeply. Read the study here: nature.com/articles/s4146…

@Maximumatheist Why do American Christians who yell about freedom and opposing tyranny worship the ultimate tyrant who will condemn you to eternal damnation for not worshipping him, a punishment inconsistent with any conceivable crime?

Has Zack Polanski’s public approval rating fallen because he’s now less popular with the public, or because the public have been utterly bombarded for the last few days with anti-Polanski messaging from the media, commentators, experts, non-experts, and everyone else?

Tucker invited me to dinner and interviewed me. Very friendly. The next day, he texted that it was really interesting and he enjoyed it. Ever since then he has been going around telling people it was all a ruse to “expose me” & that he regrets it. What kind of person does that?

@Tom_Rowsell Which psychological disorders have been selected against specifically? I've encountered a LOT of psychologically disordered and really really stupid white people in my time.

Yes all human populations are evolving at much faster rates than previously realised. Tibetans have special adaptations for altitude acquired in the last 5000 years. Europeans have undergone unique selection pressures for intelligence and absence of psychological disorders over the last 10k years. The idea that all humans finished evolving 300k years ago and that racial differences amount only to skin colour is a ridiculous myth we are leaving behind.

There’s a group of people called the Bajau… and they can dive hundreds of feet underwater with no oxygen tank. Not for sport, for survival. They spend so much time in the ocean that their bodies have actually adapted over generations. Scientists found they even have larger spleens, helping them stay underwater longer than most humans ever could. I understand training your body… but this feels like something else entirely. Do you think humans are still evolving right now?

@SamCKx This assumes that green voters would view illegal detention centres as something injurious and threatening... which they wouldn't... would they?

Nigel Farage has committed prosecutable election offences with this video under the Representation of the People Act 1983. The Act prohibits inducing voters through the threat of “temporal injury”, which includes material disadvantage such as the targeted imposition of government burdens. Threatening to specifically house illegal migrants in a constituency if it does not vote Reform is coercive and constitutes a criminal offence.
Nigel Farage MP@Nigel_Farage

If you vote Reform you will not have an illegal migrant deportation facility in your area. We will hold migrants awaiting deportation in constituencies that vote Green instead. You get what you vote for.

@olothoso @smooth_mode @AlgisFarang @Tom_Rowsell @dwarkesh_sp and yet the bloodline has its sacredness, Indo-European society was based around paternal inheritance, something unique passed between only father and son, a Brahmin can only be a Brahmin if his father was, a Kingship passed to the son from the father..

About 5000 years ago, horse nomads from the steppes conquered Europe. Still today, almost every European language descends from the one they spoke, and as much as 90% of European DNA comes from them. What did this conquest actually look like on the ground?

Today we announce a new policy: In order to deport all illegal migrants in Britain, Reform will need to detain tens of thousands at a time. Migrants will not be able to leave these detention centres, and each will be held there a couple of weeks before being deported. So here’s our promise: A Reform government will not put any migrant detention facilities in any constituency with a Reform MP. Nor will we put them where Reform controls the council. And of the remaining areas, we will prioritise Green controlled parliamentary constituencies and Green controlled councils to locate the detention centres. Put simply, if you vote in a Reform council or Reform MP, we guarantee you won’t have a detention centre near you. If you vote Green, there’s a good chance you will. This is an important exercise in democratic consent, not just for our mass deportation policy, but for where the detention centres are placed. Given Zack Polanski openly advocates for open borders, we look forward to their warm embrace of this policy.

The reaction to Dawkins deciding Claude is conscious is fascinating. It really is just the Strong AI position that Roger Penrose was criticising in the 1980s. If you think consciousness is just an emergent property of a sufficiently complex computer then of course AI is conscious. It passes the Turing test and that’s it. The really interesting part is why it is obvious to so many of us that AI is *not* conscious: obvious to the point we think Dawkins’ credulity is amusing. What are we basing that on? Are we deluded or is there something else to consciousness that we cannot articulate but that we clearly sense?

@Tom_Rowsell @dwarkesh_sp The Romans conquered Europe. So did Napoleon so did the Nazis. One can conquer Europe from within Europe. It's an accurate thing to say that Indo-Europeans conquered Europe. It's only inaccurate and politically charged to suggest they did so from outside of Europe

@dwarkesh_sp These people who "conquered Europe" were Europeans who originated in Europe, specifically the region of the Pontic steppe in Ukraine. Most of their DNA was from Eastern European hunter gatherers and their closest relatives today are Northern Europeans.
