When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves. Those who have a 'why' to live, can bear with almost any 'how’. - Viktor E. Frankl, Man’s Search for Meaning

My therapist told me “Anger is the part of yourself that loves you the most. It knows when you are being mistreated, neglected, disrespected. It signals that you have to take a step out of a place that doesn't do you justice. It makes you aware that you need to leave a room, a job, a relationship, old patterns that don't work for you anymore. Learn to listen to your anger and make it your best friend. Then it'll leave.” And that stuck with me forever.

Dr. Jen Wolkin | ADHD + Trauma Therapist
Your exhaustion is absolutely real. Your grief is absolutely real. Everything you are experiencing is absolutely real. Please take care of yourself. Please dare to step away from the 24/7 news cycle. Please protect your mental health in a world that doesn’t prioritize it. XO, Dr. Jen

It's honestly so simple. Just heal your family trauma, regulate your nervous system, break your addictions, process centuries of cultural trauma, repair your attachment style, reparent your inner child, and develop a spiritual practice that dissolves the boundaries between self and other... Oh, and don't forget to pay rent, stay hydrated, answer emails, and remember to seem fine when someone asks how you're doing.

i’m sorry to say, but the basics really do work. strength training and daily walks. morning light before screens. warm, nourishing meals. slower, intentional breathing. deep, uninterrupted sleep. legs up the wall. simpler routines. guilt-free rest. less stimulation, more intention.

Emotional intelligence is often praised in theory, but resisted in practice, because people love your empathy until it requires their accountability. They want approval or validation, not the difficult conversation or self-reflection that true understanding sometimes demands.

Sending compassion to every complex trauma survivor who remains in a freeze state due to the news, the world, the inundation with constant triggering information that your mind and body is trying to navigate. Do what you have to do to respect that response.

I don’t play the victim. I’ll tell you exactly why I became the villain and what led there. I take full responsibility for how I respond to disrespect—I don’t run from that. What I won’t do is let people act confused. Nothing I do is unprovoked. I don’t start mess, I stop cycles. The difference is I’m honest about it. I’ll tell you what I did, why I did it, and stand on it. People who lie or manipulate blame everyone else. Me? I own mine.

I just read something that said "We aren't meant to address everything we find out. Just adjust your guard." I finally grasped that concept.

You need to be slowmaxxing. You need to be reading long, fat books. You need to be making 48-hour chocolate chip cookies. You need to spend hours watching wildlife, you need to spend 15+ min making your coffee. You need to breathe in and breathe out. You need to be slowwwwwwwwww.

When you have high emotional intelligence, lower-vibrational people will be unkind to you through their coping, defense, and escape mechanisms, projections, and victim mentality, because you're an outcast, you disrupt their norms, and you threaten their dysfunctional dynamics.

My therapist said something so true today and it rewired my whole brain. She was like “game recognizes game” and basically said that anyone who’s secure in themselves will see another confident, sure person for what they are—confident and sure, rather than arrogant—because they recognize their own drive in them. It will only reflect back on insecure people as arrogance. This is helping my imposter syndrome so much.

Please stop calling people sensitive as an insult just because you don't have the emotional intelligence to understand things on a deeper level. This world needs sensitive people, empathy is a good trait to have.

I used to think there was something wrong with me because I could never stay at a job longer than a few years before it started to feel excruciatingly unbearable and unfulfilling. Even if I was really good at what I was doing. I never felt that I fit in. I never felt fully seen. I never felt chosen. Still don't. The more I awaken. The more I raise my frequency the more unbearable it becomes to publicly engage with a society that's forgotten how to feel. They don't feel. They don't care. They just look at you with blank, empty stares. For someone like me who feels with such deep empathy it's disheartening. So I just want you to know if you feel the same. If you've felt this way your whole life. You're not alone.
