The first batch of Omani female firefighters has joined the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA), on Monday. The recruitment of this group is part of the Authority's strategy to train a cadre of competent and ready national personnel to work in the field of firefighting, contributing to the support of the response system and raising the level of preparedness for dealing with various incidents and emergencies. The recruits will undergo a comprehensive training and qualification programme that includes theory, practice and field exercises, with the aim of grooming them with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their assigned tasks according to approved professional standards. The move embodies the CDAA’s commitment to investing in human capital and establishing a work environment based on competence and professionalism, keeping pace with the development in civil defence and ambulance to enhance the quality of services provided to the community. The joining of the first batch of female firefighters also confirms the CDAA’s continued implementation of its plans to prepare qualified national cadres capable of keeping pace with the requirements of field work and contributing efficiently to the protection of lives and property.

More than 100,000 people visited Al Jabal Al Akhdar Festival 2026 from its opening until the end of July, reinforcing its role in stimulating tourism and economic activity in the wilayat. The 45-day festival features a diverse programme of entertainment, cultural and sporting activities, tourism experiences and direct marketing platforms for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), productive families and farmers. Organised by Al Dakhiliyah Governorate in cooperation with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism and the Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Riyada), with OQ Gas Networks as strategic partner, the festival brings together 95 participating entities. These include SMEs, productive families, farmers, restaurants, cafés, local shops and other businesses. The event offers participants direct opportunities to market Omani products and benefit from the increased tourist activity in the wilayat during the summer season. The festival offers activities for visitors of all ages, including daily performances on the main stage, a roaming carnival, Family Oasis, Youth Square, Children’s World, a cinema dome, interactive inflatable games and Neon Oasis.

The harvesting of pomegranate trees began recently in the Wilayat of Al Jabal Al Akhdhar in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate. The crop’s cultivation runs through the month of August every year. Statistics issued by the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources in the Wilayat of Al Jabal Al Akhdhar show that the number of pomegranate trees stands at more than 27,000 and that the marketing value of the crop during the last season (2024-2025) stood at about RO 1.3 million. Statistics also show that the percentage of healthy fruits in the Wilayat of Al Jabal Al Akhdhar stood at more than 90 percent, while the average number of fruits per tree was about 60. Pomegranates constitute the main economic crop for farmers in the Wilayat of Al Jabal Al Akhdhar. The pomegranate harvest season also adds more diversity to recreational tourism and heritage tourism in the Wilayat of Al Jabal Al Akhdhar.

Nadhira Al Harthy was an Omani mountaineer who carried the nation’s name to some of the highest and most demanding peaks on Earth. Her journey began far from the summit. She started her career as a geography teacher and later worked at Oman’s Ministry of Education. But her growing passion for nature and adventure eventually led her towards the mountains. In 2019, she made history as the first Omani woman—and the second Omani overall—to reach the summit of Mount Everest. She later climbed several of the world’s highest peaks, including Manaslu, K2 and Nanga Parbat. On July 30, 2026, while attempting to climb Broad Peak in Pakistan’s Karakoram range, Nadhira lost her life in an avalanche below Camp III. She died pursuing the path she had chosen with courage and determination. Her legacy remains far greater than any summit—a powerful symbol of Omani ambition, resilience and the courage to go beyond limits.
