The Sultanate of Oman recorded a sharp decline in traffic accidents during 2025, with the total number of reported accidents falling to 1,545, marking a 17 per cent decrease compared to 2024, according to newly released data by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). The figures reflect continued efforts by authorities to improve road safety across the Sultanate through stricter enforcement, awareness campaigns and infrastructure upgrades aimed at reducing accidents and protecting lives. Road safety has remained a national priority in recent years as Oman continues to invest in safer highways, smart traffic systems and public awareness initiatives targeting speeding, distracted driving and seatbelt compliance. According to NCSI, Muscat recorded the highest number of traffic accidents in 2025 with 271 cases, followed by South Al Batinah at 246, Al Dakhiliyah at 240 and Dhofar with 237 accidents. Musandam reported the lowest number at 26 cases, while Al Dhahirah recorded 70 accidents.
