"Rock With You" was written by Rod Temperton (keyboardist and main songwriter of Heatwave, who later wrote Thriller). The track was first offered to Karen Carpenter, who refused. Quincy Jones took the demo, changed the original title (which was much more explicit: "I Want to Eat You Up") and handed it to Michael to record on Off the Wall. Michael was only 21 years old in recording and turned music into one of the last great hits of the disco era, spending 4 weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1980.

redveil spoke about the way in which white meme culture attempts to reduce Black art to a punchline, stripping it of the depth and intention behind it.
