You know in Hail Mary’s world, astrophage solves literally every spaceflight problem ever. Not sure if you can use it for surface-to-orbit, but it makes interplanetary travel so easy.

A lot of controls would be in place to protect the elevator but I don't see it as being much worse than regulations already in place over aviation as a whole. The base of a space elevator would be in the ocean at the equator. That'd be remote enough as it is to provide some ample space to protect it. Plus, once one is built, it honestly makes building the next ones cheaper. We would have several in due time. I don't know why we should expect much in terms of attacks on the elevator.

@omegilla @deltaIV9250 I’m not a big sci-fi guy but I’m glad that I learned about space elevators through Gundam 00. It also poses a question: a space elevator would be insanely hard to guard against terrorism/attacks from hostile forces without overwhelming implausible power, no?

Earth spins fast enough to theoretically work for it. Its not entirely about speed as it is finding a material strong enough to withstand all the pressures placed upon a space elevator. We even currently have a contender for that material but its simply too hard to make in enough quantities to build one. If the Eridians have a space elevator then that means they already have the engineering knowledge and materials to make one. Interplanetary exchange would quickly grant us the tools to do so as well, and would change a lot for life on earth and for any plans to colonize the moon or Mars.

@LarryBundyJr Sekiro's bad ending is basically that. The equivalent of the DS shrine maiden is basically one of the last fights to achieve that ending so if that doesn't make you the final boss, dunno what would.

Can anyone think of a game where the twist is YOU are the final boss? Only one that comes to mind for me is Shadow of the Colossus. (Though the bad ending to Resident Evil 9 totally missed an opportunity there)
