Stanford report indicates that between 1997 to 2018, Iran’s academic output increased 25x, reaching 2.6% of global scientific publication output.
Read that number again. 25x increase in 21 years.
Iran’s population is 1% of the world’s.

The Iranian regime quite literally launched a massive operation during the Iran-Iraq War in Ramadan.
They called it "Operation Ramadan".

Iraq was attacked by the US during Ramadan and it sickening to know that the US is again going to attack Iran during Ramadan. The US apparently loves to strike Muslim countries during Ramadan and I am convinced it isn’t what these countries have done to violate international law but about who they worship.

If you are a software engineer "experiencing some degree of mental health crisis", now hear this, because I've been coding for 50 years since the days of punched cards and I have a salutary kick in your ass to deliver.
Get over yourself. Every previous "programming is obsolete" panic has been a bust, and this one's going to be too.
The fundamental problem of mismatch between the intentions in human minds and the specifications that a computer can interpret hasn't gone away just because now you can do a lot of your programming in natural language to an LLM.
Systems are still complicated. This shit is still difficult. The need for people who specialize in bridging that gap isn't going to go away.
As usual, the answer is: upskill yourself and adapt. If a crusty old fart like me can do it, you can too.

programming always sucked. it was a requisite pain for ~everyone who wanted to manipulate computers into doing useful things and im glad it’s over. it’s amazing how quickly I’ve moved on and don’t miss even slightly. im resentful that computers didn’t always work this way

Boyan says this is 1-2% of global plastic emissions. If it were only 1% and they were able to keep growing at this rate, they'd capture all emissions in 8 years.

Scrolling through the footage from Iran carries me back. I’m not just watching history; I’m reliving it. In the eyes of these brave young strangers, I find the ghost of my own generation - teenagers in 1979 witnessing how swiftly a world can shatter.
But the feeds show only the surface. Beneath the pixels are a thousand unspoken stories: the quiet agony of impossible choices, the theft of innocence, and the heavy price paid by those who must leave everything behind to find their liberty.
