2006 I was in class 4🤭
Eric@amerix

In 2006, I was a lecturer at the Kenya Medical Training College in Nakuru. I was lecturing in the department of Clinical Medicine & Surgery, I taught Pharmacology and Parasitology (1st Years) and Pathology (2nd Years), I was also supervising 3rd Years, Internal Medicine rotation in PGH Nyayo Ward lectured by Dr Babu Bora(RIP), and mentoring interns in the wards. Dr Murwa Muteshi was my immediate mentor. My exams were probing critical thinking, and I didn't entertain reckless ward lessons. For example, I would set a True/False question: " Among the following, which one causes inflammation?" • Tight-fitting pants • Hot water • Indomethacin • None of the above They would all struggle to answer this kind of question. I demanded orderly history taking, properly documented physical examination and a sensible, structured clinical discussion during ward rotations. I was an avid reader of Dr Sir William Osler, and would recite one of his quotes to my students, "Medicine is learned by the bedside and not in the classroom. Let not your concepts of the manifestations of disease come from words heard in the lecture room or read from the book." The HOD warned me that I am stressing these students by not setting straightforward questions from the curriculum and demanding clean ward presentations. I would tell him that students of medicine must be critical thinkers otherwise they would mismanage patients including your grandmother back in the village. The HOD looked at me, called Afya House to talk to Dr Kimani who was the DMS. That is how I was transferred from Nakuru to become a founding teacher of Kenya Medical Training College, Webuye. That was 20 years ago!

study calculus. it’s not just math. it’s how you understand change. what it gives you: • derivatives → how fast things change. velocity, growth, gradients. • integrals → how things accumulate. area, energy, total effect. • limits → what happens at the edge. where intuition usually breaks. • differential equations → how real systems evolve over time. once you get calculus: • physics stops being memorization • control systems start making sense • optimization becomes clear • even machine learning clicks don’t just watch lectures. • solve problems by hand • struggle through proofs • derive results yourself calculus isn’t about passing exams. it’s about learning how the world changes.

Drake and Jorja Smith reportedly ended their relationship in 2017 after a serious discussion about marriage. Drake allegedly brought up the idea of getting married, even though it was not an official proposal. Before accepting, Jorja was said to have asked for $150,000 every month during the marriage. It was also claimed that in the event of a divOrce, she would receive 70% of Drake's assets. After her lawyers reportedly presented Drake with documents to sign, he is said to have ended the relationship right there.

I want to help robotics founders this week. Not with fundraising. Not with generic AI advice. Not with pitch feedback. With the painful part I know well: turning messy robot behavior into a faster experiment loop. Perception failing in edge cases. Motion planning stuck. Sim not matching reality. Hardware creating weird constraints. Metrics unclear. I’ve built robots since I was 12, scaled a self-driving company, and built one of the fastest strawberry-harvesting robots in the world. I can help you find the real bottleneck faster than another week of guessing. If you’re building a robot and stuck in the loop, reply with what’s broken or DM me.

Tiny robotics thought: Why do so many state-of-the-art models try to predict full trajectories? The harder question is the decision: what should the robot attempt next? which contact is worth risking? which object matters? when should it stop, regrasp, retry, or back out? Let the model predict the decision. Let optimal control do the physics. Feels cleaner than asking a neural net to hallucinate an entire motion and then praying reality signs off.

I sat down with @ulrikstighansen and @EricEncord, the co-founders of Encord, after their $60M Series C led by Wellington Management. From a wild bet to their incredible success with Physical AI, their story is wild! A seed fund once rejected them because they didn't believe in AI and invested in an Icelandic dating app instead 😅 Here are a few things from the conversation that stuck with me.

Scam Altman and Greg Stockman stole a charity. Full stop. Greg got tens of billions of stock for himself and Scam got dozens of OpenAI side deals with a piece of the action for himself, Y Combinator style. After this lawsuit, Scam will also be awarded tens of billions in stock directly. The fundamental question is simply this: Do you want to set legal precedent in the United States that it is ok to loot a charity? If so, you undermine all charitable giving in the United States forever. I could have started OpenAI as a for-profit corporation. Instead, I started it, funded it, recruited critical talent and taught them everything I know about how to make a startup successful FOR THE PUBLIC GOOD. Then they stole the charity.
X Freeze@XFreeze

Interesting how it works Elon puts up his own money, rounds up the absolute best AI talent on the planet, leverages every connection he has to secure serious resources, and launches OpenAI in 2015 as a pure non-profit explicitly created to develop AI for the benefit of humanity, with zero profit motive and open research Then the “team” decides they want the bag They push Elon out, take control, and quietly flip the entire thing into a for-profit machine All while preaching the same sanctimonious lines on repeat: “We’re still mission-driven!” “AI for the good of humanity!” “We’d never abandon our principles!” The ultimate betrayal: Elon got zero equity. Not a single share. He funded it. He built the foundation. He got nothing while they turned his non-profit into their personal cash cow This is the level of betrayal and hypocrisy we’re dealing with And for the record.... this lawsuit doesn’t put a single penny in Elon’s pocket. Any win goes straight back to the non-profit to restore the exact mission he founded

The #1 factor that determines whether you succeed in life is you. It isn’t “the patriarchy.” It isn’t the Jews. It isn’t the Muslims. It isn’t the billionaires. It isn’t the foreigners. It isn’t white people. It isn’t black people. It's time for us to move on from victimhood culture in America.
