It is also important to remember that IoT devices, as distinct from personal devices, are often constrained devices (e.g., by power, by processing). oneM2M’s common services framework takes the burden and load off such devices to save resources.

oneM2M fits into this picture by providing common IoT services, via a REST API, between application entities. Data and communication management are examples of such services. Others are identity management, access control, application and data management, etc.
