Long-term investor. Keep those wonderful 10 and 100 baggers, I'll take the garbage one-baggers instead.

@atelicinvest @GavinSBaker On an earnings call in 1997, Worldcom said that "Internet traffic doubles every 100 days”. No one questioned that and everyone including CNBC just ran with it. IIRC the true number was 6 months (50% lower growth rate) which ultimately created a different outcome.

I have never understood the Eastern and Northern European mindset of going on vacation during summer. When your city is 75 degrees and beautiful and everything is available, you go to Greece and pay $300 a day to turn yourself into a lobster. Instead of just... going in November. You know, when your city is 40 and dreary and grey with 4 hours of "sun "a day. And Greece is 75 and you get a private beach. Make it make sense.

@mihaljevic I don't see much of a learning curve/sunk cost for using Obsidian -- if you don't fall into the rabbit hole of trying to install 50 plugins and 'optimizing' it. I just use it to view markdown files, PDFs and search.

Interesting question: whether to build on Obsidian or trust that Claude will obsolete it — i.e., climb another learning curve if it may not matter in a couple of years?

@BerkelKip Quite interesting how GRBK - the antithesis to NVR - is doing quite well in comparison.

With many US homebuilders moving to an asset-light model trying to imitate $NVR it's amazing to see just how different NVR is when you do the DuPont analysis: $NVR $GRBK $PHM $SDHC $DHI $TOL $TMHC $MHO $LEN $DFH $KBH $MTH $HOV $CCS $LGIH

@epicserve @dhh For what it's worth, a recent upgrade in the NVIDIA open source driver made Zen browser (and eventually all of omarchy) crash with segfaults. It stopped for me when I pinned the version to the older 590.48.01. During your upgrade possibly the GPU driver was upgraded, too.

@Mr_Neutral_Man I think the obvious concern here is the newbuild program and overbuild worries/margin pressure due to competition (London, Berlin). J-Curve should become meaningful in '27/28 as the new builds mature (so I hope). My second-biggest real estate related position.

Sec Bessent and President Trump are playing a flawless strategic game. 👇
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent@SecScottBessent

Iran is the head of the snake for global terrorism, and through President Trump’s Operation Epic Fury, we are winning this critical fight at an even faster pace than anticipated. In response to Iran’s terrorist attacks against global energy infrastructure, the Trump Administration will continue to deploy America’s economic and military might to maximize the flow of energy to the world, strengthen global supply, and seek to ensure market stability. Today, the Department of the Treasury is issuing a narrowly tailored, short-term authorization permitting the sale of Iranian oil currently stranded at sea. At present, sanctioned Iranian oil is being hoarded by China on the cheap. By temporarily unlocking this existing supply for the world, the United States will quickly bring approximately 140 million barrels of oil to global markets, expanding the amount of worldwide energy and helping to relieve the temporary pressures on supply caused by Iran. In essence, we will be using the Iranian barrels against Tehran to keep the price down as we continue Operation Epic Fury. This temporary, short-term authorization is strictly limited to oil that is already in transit and does not allow new purchases or production. Further, Iran will have difficulty accessing any revenue generated and the United States will continue to maintain maximum pressure on Iran and its ability to access the international financial system. So far, the Trump Administration has been working to bring around 440 million additional barrels of oil to the global market, undercutting Iran’s ability to leverage its disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. President Trump’s pro-energy agenda has driven U.S. oil and gas production to record levels, strengthening energy security and lowering fuel costs. Any short-term disruption now will ultimately translate into longer-term economic gains for Americans – because there is no prosperity without security.

@BerkelKip @MikeFritzell A lot of the value generation in civil aviation seems to have gone to jet turbine and parts makers, select airports, but not to the OEMs and airlines. I have yet to come across a framework that lets one predict these kind of chokepoints on a per industry basis.

$FFH.TO I have attached a more detailed analysis which shows my work. The stock at $1,634 is simply too cheap. I added to my position again today. Our ability to earn $200 per share moving forward is excellent. 8 times earnings and a slight premium to book is far too cheap.

$FFH.TO $FRFHF Lots of take aways from Prem's annual letter. I want to focus on two adjustments to book value that show we are currently trading for only 110% of today's adjusted book value and 98% of year-end 2026 book value. No wonder Fairfax is being so active on the buyback.
