I think it's funny how both the Germans and the French call the war of 1870 the German-French war (Guerre franco-allemande and Deutsch-Französischer Krieg) but in English it's commonly referred to as the Franco-Prussian war. Do the English not recognise German Unification?

Meanwhile, the USA burned billions in cash and munitions to achieve the status quo ante and a deal which involves giving Iran more money than the JCPOA (the 'Iran Deal') did.
A lot to spend to end up in a worse place than we were when we started.

If the deal is along the lines of what's here (note the variation in reports in the thread on the details) it would reflect Iran effectively winning: the regime survives, its uranium intact and the USA pays an indemnity in the form of frozen fund releases.
