The truth is: success in acting isn’t just about “raw talent.” Some of the biggest names in the industry never went to drama school… and plenty of people who did never got work. So what really makes the difference? In this video, Acting Academy founder Mark Pegg breaks it down into 3 essentials every successful actor has: 1️⃣ Technique – mastering the craft. 2️⃣ Art – discovering a unique creative voice. 3️⃣ Business – learning how to market yourself as an actor. 💡 He also reveals the 4 stages of learning that take someone from a beginner who “knows nothing” to an actor who performs with ease and confidence. If you’ve ever imagined walking onto a film or TV set for the first time, this video is for you. 👉 Watch now and take your first step toward a real acting career. #ActingTips #ActorLife #DramaSchool #OnSet #ActingCoach #ActingAcademy

I’ve been hit by the absolute worst burn out and depression since last night. It started as just a flu type thing but as the night went on I knew all the signs… 😬 Jaw started clenching up 🤷‍♂️ Indecision and self doubt 🛌 Horrendous sleep and vivid nightmares 🦴 Whole body and bones aching 🌫️ Fog descended all over my brain. 😱 Panic attack and dread of seeing anybody I don’t think it’s one particular thing but rather a month of losing lots of dogs. Life or death decisions and the stress of dogs being in operations. I’ve tried to do everything right with running / healthy eating and taking my meds but it all just caught up. Today has been 80% in bed under the covers. I wasn’t going to share it this time and rather just hide it as I always worry people think I’m fishing for compliments and sympathy. But I always remember the few messages I get when I do share it. I’m lucky I can be open. Not everybody who has a job or even family and friends can share it yet so I post this for you guys out there. I know from accountants to athletes and stay at home mums to forklift drivers and CEOs there is a world of people who suffer in silence. Please don’t ever think you are alone or different to others. We are all in this together. I struggled to walk the dogs today. To feed myself. To even answer simple Whatsapp messages. I stoop in line at the shop looking at my flip flops in case somebody spoke to me. My body was shaking with fear, anxiety and pain. And that’s ok. Many of us will be like that. Just remember it’s totally ok to not be ok. It doesn’t make us weirdos or outcasts. It’s just a mental illness and it passes. Hopefully I’ll be back to full health asap as trying to do all the right things. My brain was just a little overloaded with hard dog decisions and grief. Love you all ❤️

1. Margaret Rutherford (1892–1972) - Start of Career: Began acting at 33, debuting on stage in 1925 after training at the Old Vic. - Background: Initially worked as a piano teacher and elocution tutor. Her late start was partly due to financial struggles and personal challenges, including caring for her father, who had mental health issues. - Breakthrough: Gained recognition in the 1930s with stage roles and broke into film with Dusty Ermine (1936). Her iconic role as Miss Marple in four Agatha Christie films (1961–1964) came in her late 60s. - Notable Achievements: Won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in The V.I.P.s (1963) at 71 and was made a Dame (DBE) in 1967. Known for eccentric roles like Madame Arcati in Blithe Spirit (1945). - Why Late?: Personal hardships and a gradual build in theater delayed her film stardom until her 50s and 60s. 2. Bea Arthur (1922–2009) - Start of Career: Began professional acting in her late 20s, with significant roles in her 40s. She debuted off-Broadway in the 1940s but didn’t gain fame until her 40s. - Background: Worked as a typist, truck driver, and nightclub singer during World War II. Studied acting at the Dramatic Workshop in New York but spent years in small theater roles. - Breakthrough: Rose to prominence at 44 with her role as Vera Charles in Mame on Broadway (1966), winning a Tony Award. Became a household name as Maude Findlay in Maude (1972–1978) at 50 and later as Dorothy Zbornak in The Golden Girls (1985–1992). - Notable Achievements: Won two Emmy Awards (1977 for Maude, 1988 for The Golden Girls). Known for her sharp wit and commanding presence. - Why Late?: Early years in theater were slow, and her distinctive voice and height (5’10”) limited early casting until her unique persona found the right roles. 3. Estelle Getty (1923–2008) - Start of Career: Began acting in her 40s, with her first significant role at 47. - Background: Worked as a secretary and performed in amateur Yiddish theater in New York. Raised a family before pursuing acting full-time. - Breakthrough: Gained attention in her 50s with a role in Torch Song Trilogy (1982) on Broadway. Achieved fame at 62 as Sophia Petrillo in The Golden Girls (1985–1992). - Notable Achievements: Won an Emmy Award (1988) for The Golden Girls. Her comedic timing and portrayal of the feisty Sicilian mother made her a fan favorite. - Why Late?: Prioritized family and worked non-acting jobs, only diving into professional acting after her children were grown. 4. Melissa McCarthy (1970–) - Start of Career: Began performing in her late 20s, with significant roles in her 30s. - Background: Moved to Los Angeles in her 20s, performing stand-up comedy and working odd jobs while training with The Groundlings improv troupe. - Breakthrough: Landed a role as Sookie St. James in Gilmore Girls (2000–2007) at 30, but her career exploded at 41 with her Oscar-nominated role in Bridesmaids (2011). - Notable Achievements: Starred in hits like The Heat (2013), Spy (2015), and Can You Ever Forgive Me? (2018), earning another Oscar nomination. Known for her comedic versatility and dramatic depth. - Why Late?: Spent years honing her craft in improv and small roles before breaking into mainstream success. 5. Fionnula Flanagan (1941–) - Start of Career: Began acting in her 20s but didn’t gain prominence until her 40s and 50s. - Background: Born in Dublin, Ireland, she trained at the Abbey Theatre and worked in Irish theater. Early roles were minor, and she balanced acting with teaching. - Breakthrough: Gained notice in James Joyce’s Women (1985) in her 40s and later for roles in The Others (2001) and Waking Ned Devine (1998) in her 50s. - Notable Achievements: Known for roles in Star Trek series, Lost, and The Guard (2011). Won an IFTA Award for The Guard. - Why Late?: Early career focused on theater and smaller Irish productions

50 years ago today, the opening episode of Terry Nation's Survivors was first broadcast on the BBC. The Fourth Horseman is possibly the most gripping and chilling 50 minutes of dystopian drama I have ever seen. Abby's cosy middle-class domesticity crumbles before our very eyes.
