Goomorning dense, it’s been a weird week, a mix of 2004 with 2021... 2025 crying... ok, don’t be mad at me, in doubt, ignore me, I'll rant because we need to talk about Spider Man, Tobey, Holland, Sadie Sink and cocoons (Sadly, no Florence Pugh, IF she show up in SM4, maybe...) * I actually enjoyed this leak... not really, but instead of just whining, I’ll do as the doomsday one (no pun intended)... I’ll practice my writing and let my messed, half rotten brain loop over these loose ends just for fun or for some fanfic goo. Anyway. Did you even know there’s this oddly clean throughline between Tobey Maguire’s Spider Man, a weird spider comic called The Other from 2005, and where the MCU seems too scared to go right now with whatever chaos they’re cooking at HOME this time? I hadn’t get the link between any of that until I heard the threat from someone about Peter suffering something worse than oblivion... So, in SM 2, 2004, Peter’s powers stop working because he’s mentally and emotionally out of sync... his abilities aren’t regulated, and being Spider Man was literally breaking him... bla bla bla... But someone reminded me of the cocoon yesterday... One year after SM2, comics pushed that same idea of SM failing way further in The Other... a comic that’s as bizarre as it is good... highly recommend it. So, in The Other, Peter’s powers start killing him, Morlun beats him to death (SM eat him, later don't worry) then he crawls into an alley, spins a cocoon, dies inside it, and comes back evolved... organic shit everywhere, fangs, better webs straight from fists, heightened instincts, the whole more spider than man package and it freaked people out... *I can’t say for sure that it’s actually related, but some features disappeared after that, like the organic webs (this already existed in other storylines, I’m talking about this specific cut in the other)... but in the next SM movies, we no longer saw organic webs coming out of Garfield or Holland’s wrists... *Remember, everything between canon sony/mcu and marvel comics can change, no matter what is written or what we think. The point is... every bestial thing got away so we could go back to mechanical webshooters, cartridges, gadgets, clean lines, more humor... until the hightech, safer, more controllable, less bodyhorror, more teen, angst Peter we’ve got now. Now we have this rumor that an unknown threat, maybe played by Sadie Sink, could be powerful enough to do worse to Peter than just making the world forget him, maybe she’s Jean Grey... and if it were Jean, makes sense someone that powerful messing with Peter’s mind and soul, and i can’t stop thinking about how The Other already gave MCU the blueprint. It would be awesome to see Jean leave Peter so terrified, so broken, so defeated that he chooses death? No, god... but... it would be wild to see Peter in a crazy bestial arc, not just about grief... and since they don't want to innovate, seeking good references could work. IMO could be interesting to see his body instinctively cocooning itself to survive all this currently mess, having to relearn his powers the same way before... fear, loss, instability first, mastery later and at the end, the real upgrade wouldn’t just be a new spider physiology, but something the MCU’s Peter still doesn’t fully have even after 3 movies... real self-trust. Tom Holland has that range. The irony is that both Sony and Marvel Comics were once braver than the MCU feels now. Sony let Spider Man fail, quit, panic, and completely collapse on screen. Marvel Comics let him literally die and come back wrong. AGAIN... we’ve got all the pieces, all the precedent, and all the narrative permission to go there now… If only MCU had spine... * This is probably my most unhinged HEADCANON (no, maybe it’s the VOID-jumping-inside-people one), but thinking it through at least lets me complain and pitch a solution. Like I said, just ignore me whenever you want.
