Those asking about what we said on TMD this morning regarding the 4th of July Daytona race being something the local government prefers not to have any longer here’s some background

@IdkPlayer I’ve been going all of the years of the August race and that race has blended in with any other race on the schedule. The whole “win and you’re in” thing wasn’t really that hype. When it was on Independence Day weekend it felt like a borderline crown jewel.

Opinion: I’ve always loved the 4th of July Daytona race growing up but the charm & atmosphere of the regular season finale was probably the best thing to come from what was the NASCAR Playoffs Curious how it will feel with the revamped Chase era The radar this year showed if the event was 4th of July weekend it would’ve most likely rained out Visually, attendance looks better with the race in August (2014 - present) Both are special in their own ways. If we do a full season standings in the future I don’t see a problem with going back to July or even trying October 👀 If NASCAR wants to make the Chase work long term then the right move for now seems to be Daytona as the regular season finale

I really do think it'll end up back at Daytona eventually. Sorta like how Darlington lost the Labor Day slot after 2003 and then got it back in 2015, traditions are traditions for a reason and sooner or later management will realize a lot of the future's answers lie in the past

I get all the reasons why TV hates this but I selfishly want it for weather reasons and the fact that my immediate post-race content would have a much longer shelf life for a race that ends at 2:30 that afternoon.

other than the obvious answer (daytona) atlanta is the only other track that makes sense to run it at something about a superspeedway night race on the july 4th weekend just feels right

@DirtyMoMedia Daytona or Atlanta. It needs to be under the lights and something that puts on a show. Boosting a market on July 4th would only work for a year or two and we would be right back at the same spot again of searching for a new place.
