@NicholasGuyatt Indeed! When Peter Foster had UKHE as his pet topic he did make sure to include staff voices that put some nuance to the OfS/UUK/UCEA/DoE statements, but he seems to have gone off the topic and his successors haven't continued his good practice 😭 But yay graphs!

@onslies it is so hard to navigate the reporting since it's usually positioned around an 'expert' or official that you're inclined not to trust; but the graphs are mostly dependable!

Sometimes I get mad that Labour had *14 years* out of office to figure out how to rescue UK universities and yet since 2024 they've continued to steer them towards oblivion. Then I remember it was Blair & Mandelson who pushed for the marketisation of higher ed in the first place

@NicholasGuyatt (and realising that I hadn't read it when it came out because it was pitched as the OfS speaking, and I have a limited amount of patience for any of their utterances...)

@NicholasGuyatt excellent, thank you! Somehow, this is the one paper QMUL provides subscriptions for so I could have gotten it through a couple of password hoops, but this was a straightforward click.

I don't discount the vandalism of successive Tory/coalition governments, or the role of overpaid administrators in helping to dismantle the sector; but just as New Labour began the attack on universities, so Mandelson's heirs now seem poised to finish them off

@DavidVeevers1 Yeah, though may be trying to curry favour for now and go sinister once they’ve got the trust. They had me, must respect some of the skill…

snarky letters, break-ins in union offices, silence about persecution of colleagues, bailiffs at dawn, court cases, kicking out toddlers, more court cases, ... All the more thankful for the lovely @QMSU and @QM_UNISON friends reminding us we can do this together.

Another year! And what a year it’s been… A thread of the biggest events – as a challenge to the short-termism of news cycles and a reminder of how much members worked towards a better university together with many brilliant grassroots organisations. 🧵

Only two weeks of 2024 to go. We'd like to leave behind in 2024: the exhausting intimidation, surveillance, breaking-in, non-consultations. We'd like to take with us int 2025 and well beyond: the excellent solidarity of members, students, community, and grassroots organisations

This was our 2023: x.com/qm_ucu/status/… And this our 2022: x.com/qm_ucu/status/… May our overview for 2025 be (1) shorter, (2) with fewer 'don't go full QMUL' moments, and (3) with just slightly fewer 'OMG, I'd forgotten about that madness, that was THIS year??' entries...
