I really do find Malenia's unrelenting devotion towards Miquella to be something toxic.
Apart from the odd dynamic, it belittles her self worth and she ignores her in responsibility in carrying the rot, no self respecting or responsible person would have unleashed the Aeonia.

I'm not saying Miquella did not care for Malenia or that he took advantage of her. It's evident that he loves his sister, it's Malenia's own flawed way of thinking that was shaped by her circumstances which causes this.
Even when she dies, she thinks of someone else not herself.
