On National Vietnam War Veterans Day, we honor the courage and sacrifice of Vietnam War veterans and their families. The Vietnam Helicopter Pilot and Crewmember Monument and memorial tree stand in ANC's Section 35, honoring the helicopter pilots and crewmembers killed in the war.

Did you know there is only one US Coast Guard Medal of Honor recipient? LCMS Coast Guard Auxiliary Chaplain BillSchmidt gave the invocation and benediction for the Memorial to Signalman First Class Douglas Munro, held at the Munro Memorial at USCG Station New York. Munro posthumously received the Medal of Honor for extraordinary heroism in WWII.

And in Your wisdom, You have called some to place themselves in harm’s way to defend our nation against her enemies by serving in the Armed Forces. We mourn at the loss of our Soldiers who have fulfilled this calling with great love, laying down their life for our Nation.   We lift up their family and friends to you in prayer, trusting in Your mercy and may they find comfort and hope in you, the great Shepherd who laid down His life for us.  Take into Your care those whose hearts are heavy with sorrow and grief and lead them to look to you for confidence and strength.
