people who hate algo trading usually: tried an EA off telegram, didn't backtest it, blew up an account, concluded "algo doesn't work." you didn't algo. you gambled with automation.

algos don't argue with you when you're wrong. they just do the wrong thing you told them, faster. the discipline is a feature until the rule itself is the mistake.

building an algo is 10% strategy, 90% edge cases. "what if it's a partial fill?" "what if the order rejects?" "what if there's a gap through my SL?" the boring 90% is where accounts die.

disadvantage: it's a false sense of "set and forget." markets regime-shift. the strategy that printed in a trending 2023 gets shredded in a choppy range. no algo is forever. maintenance is the job.

slippage and costs are brutal at scale. your backtest didn't account for the fill you actually got on illiquid strikes. paper P&L: green. real P&L: red. the gap is called reality.
