In his homily during Mass in Mongomo, Pope Leo recalled the missionaries who began to evangelize Equatorial Guinea 170 years ago, and pointed to the words of Pope St. Paul VI in 1969: “Africans, from now on, you are missionaries to yourselves.”

At the end of the Mass he celebrated in Mongomo, Equatorial Guinea, Pope Leo took a moment to pray before a beautiful image of the Immaculate Conception. Meanwhile, the enthusiastic choir sang such a joyful hymn that it moved hearts even from afar.

No one is excluded from God’s love! With our unique pasts, mistakes, and sufferings, each one of us remains precious in the Lord’s eyes. Jesus revealed this to us in His every encounter, gesture, and word. Pope Leo XIV has just departed Angola after three days in the country, during which he presided over two Masses and prayed the Rosary at the Mama Muxima Shrine. With this, he concludes his visit to the third country in Africa planned during his Apostolic Trip and continues to the fourth and last country: Equatorial Guinea.
