With growing reports of users with big followings being wiped from social platforms overnight, there is now an urgent need to build a fleet of competing apps; fully decentralized. Tube sites, microblogs and imageboards need to be replaced with p2p, local-first alternatives.

With an OrbitDB-based p2p "Twitter" you would never be censored, cancelled nor shadowbanned. There would be no concept of "signing-up" or "logging-in". You would own your data and it would be encrypted by you. We challenge you to build the alternative. Do you accept?

A microblogging site such as Twitter, but built using OrbitDB. No more reliance on 3rd parties, no shadowbans, no blue ticks, no billionaire agendas. YOU own your data and YOU decide who can see it.

@theworlddiva We're seeing more and more examples of this. Platforms such as X hold their users to ransom but fail to deliver reliability. A platform which runs locally and pushes data out to other users is not suseptible to these kinds of limitations. We call this local-first.

A month back or so an entire token was deployed, that generated a decent amount so far, even though without any acknowledgement from you guys so far. If you actually do have a look... that can ignite the whole thing and the community can really get to work on generating substantial high figure amount for you guys. All the funds can be claimed by you via Github login. pump.fun/coin/FHjvFrd41…

There are now major impedements to using centralized applications. Surveillance, control, verification. These "features" are making sofware unusable. By taking a decentralized approach using p2p storage, users can run applications locally with no restrictions.

To combat the growing "age verification" threat to our personal sovereignty, users need to fully take back control of both the application they run and the data they store. This can be achieve by running decentralized software using a local-first, p2p data store.

We see endless examples of centralized systems banning loyal users under the guise of "community standards". What if you could run a social media platform directly from your own computer and share it with other users? No 3rd party required. OrbitDB makes this possible.

🚨 @Meta @finkd JUST PERMANENTLY BANNED MY ACCOUNT. 16+ years on Facebook. Over $1,500,000 spent in ads across my account. And what do I get back? An automated email. "Your review was unsuccessful." Why? Because I connected Claude + MCP to my system to get more out of Meta's platform. TO SPEND MORE TO THEM! That's it. That's the whole reason. No explanation. No human on the line. Just some underpaid kid behind a laptop making copy-paste decisions about accounts spending thousands of dollars per day. Meta has completely lost sight of who their customers are. And they simply don't care. It's time for a new platform to rise. The Meta monopoly needs to end. We deserve better. #CancelMeta #FacebookBan #MetaMonopoly #DigitalRights #AntiMeta #BigTechAbuse #MetaFail #ClaudeAI #AIRights #BreakUpMeta

OrbitDB is the antidote to so-called "age verification". The new surveillance trojan horse is another way bad actors are attempting to control everything you do, on (and off)line. Decentralized apps with p2p storage will counteract centralized control.

People are disenfranchised with centralized social media platforms. Blue checks, suppression of posts, shadowbanning... We are poised for a revolution in p2p, decentralized communication tools powered by OrbitDB.

We see endless data breaches on centralized systems. We have to limit the collateral damage. You shouldn't be at risk because a 3rd party can't secure your data.

@Suzi3D @theworlddiva OrbitDB is version 3 now and is feature complete which is really exciting. We have an extensive roadmap we want to develop. OrbitDB is the open source decentralized data store every app should be using.

To all the ppl who got gaslit into thinking the internet can't ever be different/privacy is 'dead' etc etc As a software designer I am telling you - we CAN architect systems on independent infrastructure that do NOT collect or trade in your personal data I know because I do it

If social media is to survive, it will need to be driven by local-first, p2p database systems. There is now a huge opportunity for decentralized developers who utitiliize OrbitDB. #p2p #decentralization #database

OrbitDB is seeking funding for ongoing development, both core improvements and ecosystem expansion. If you know of any avenues, please feel free to share. Over the past year we have been funded by @OctantApp, @giveth and @gitcoin and will be looking at these in 2026.

The recent age verification flipflopping by @discord (and data collection motives) creates a massive opportunity for decentralized alternatives. OrbitDB will play a major part in the #dapp stack with a #localfirst, #p2p approach to data storage.

@mooneyjohn Thanks. We definitely like the idea of expanding support to different programming languages as well as making database replication more reliable while still maintaining privacy.

We're opening up creator grants for our migration. The goal is to educate and play a key role in helping our users migrate from v1 of our app to v2. We're looking for creators who can effectively do that. There's different categories of grants from micro-grants to bigger-sized ones, depending on the proposal and type of content you're proposing. We'll be accepting applications on a rolling basis for the next few weeks. There's no deadline though first applicants definitely get reviewed first. Apply here: octant.fillout.com/migration-epoc… Some tips on applying (from @arlery): - Be clear about what you are proposing. Don't be vague. - Pitch realistic with numbers. You're being compared to every other applicant. We have to justify our grants decisions and we pay close attention to results. You have a higher chance of working with us repetitively if you're pitching smaller scope that's doable and effective (most importantly) - Understand what our epochs are and what our migration will look like. If you're new to the Octant ecosystem, we'll share some explainer tweets and helpful links below (they're also in the form) - Be creative. We don't want to fund 20 creators sharing the exact same message. Think through what could get attention on the timeline, what could go viral, and what would make someone literally go to the app and migrate after interacting with your content. - Show past proof of what's worked. We don't want essays, but more so your POV and reflection on what's worked for YOU. Concise verbiage, less window-dressing. No BS and results being key. - If you're a first-time applicant, we know it can be scary to apply. Bet on yourself and go for it. You'll get better with experience and reflections (and ofc we'll share tips periodically too if you'd like to understand some of these aspects better) A great application will tell the reviewer who you are, what your content is and why it's effective (+ with proof of results//contextualized), and help us make a decision faster. Best of luck! We're excited to see what y'all share!
