It's great that #AIAct has reached a political agreement. But I would have loved to hear/read its latest discussions in a public space -- instead of relying on tweets or status updates on private platforms. We deserve more transparency in the approval process of EU laws

"At a time of reckoning in Europe regarding systemic racism in policing it is surely reckless to legalise a technology infamous for compounding discrimination" Allowing predictive policing based on racial profiling shouldn't even be a discussion-@brandobenifei hold strong! #AIAct

This is a joke. EU governments have refused to listen to human rights experts about the risks of all forms of biometric surveillance, and now Parliament are being pressured to give in on such an important question of human rights. #BanBiometricMassSurveillance

#AI Act: the Council is pushing for allowing law enforcement to conduct biometric categorisation based on race. Pressure is on Parliament to accept the package deal on prohibitions.

#AIAct trilogue: As EU policymakers prepare for this unexpected second round, a 🧵on the remaining dividing lines and the positions of the actors involved. Spoiler alert: Much will depend on co-rapporteur @brandobenifei and the EU Parliament's centre-left. 1/8 📷@FEPS_Europe

This Weds is (possibly) the final EU #AIAct negotiation. Governments have been resistant to any limitation on police use of AI, despite the massive and well-documented harms. @edri calls on @EUCouncil to put their money where their mouth is & put people at the heart of the Act
euronews@euronews

Euroviews | Our governments must be willing to put their money where their mouth is, ensuring that state uses of AI are subject to the same reasonable rules and requirements as any other AI system, @ellajakubowska1 writes.

For the millionth time, it’s either mandatory or self-regulation, you’re either serious about putting rules in place or it’s a political facade so negotiators can say that did something on foundational models without real consequences to please a few companies #AIact
AS@agstrait

'Mandatory self regulation' is not a serious proposal for regulating a technology that tens of thousands of SMEs will build from. This leaves SMEs holding responsibility for issues they cannot address. This will kill uptake of these systems and endanger the public.
