PUBLIC ALERT ‼️‼️ This is to notify the general public that the newly constructed Okefia Flyover and Lameco Flyover in Osogbo, the Osun state capital will be opened to traffic from 4:30pm on Monday 25th, May, 2025. This is in order to allow easy flow of traffic in the Osogbo metropolis during this festive period. We appreciate all motorists and the good people of Osun State for understanding and compliance throughout this period. Last Friday, I visited the Osogbo Library and saw firsthand how the decline of public libraries affects education, literacy, inclusion, and access to safe learning spaces for children and vulnerable groups. As Director-General and Special Envoy of the Governor of Osun State on Climate Change and Renewable Energy, I am launching the Green Libraries Initiative – Osun State, beginning with a pilot intervention at the Osogbo Library. The initiative will start with a rapid needs assessment covering infrastructure, electricity, sanitation, digital access, child safety, accessibility, and learning resources to guide future interventions and partnerships. The project will also introduce a Children’s Climate Learning Corner featuring climate storybooks, recycling education, eco-clubs, environmental art, and tree adoption programs to promote environmental awareness among young people. In addition, a Volunteer and Mentorship Program will engage students, NYSC members, teachers, writers, and retirees in activities such as reading circles, debate clubs, mentoring, poetry sessions, and homework support. Through the “Library Friends of Osun Initiative,” the public will be encouraged to support library revitalization through book donations, furniture sponsorships, solar support, and volunteer activities. The initiative will further integrate sustainability and circular economy practices through recycling points, upcycled furniture, plastic-to-art projects, and student recycling competitions, transforming libraries into community hubs for literacy, innovation, and climate consciousness. The overall vision is to ensure that no child in Osun State loses access to learning and opportunity due to neglected public educational spaces.
