I think it’s time FIFA redefines the meaning of “assists” in football, since we are now using G/A to fraudulently inflate players’ contributions to goals scored. In my opinion, it is not every pass to a goalscorer that constitutes an “assist”(assistance to a goal), as shown in the two videos below. The first video was just a pass, without an intention to assist a goal, which the receiving player creatively turned into a goal with a show of individual brilliance. The second video however, classifies and defines what an “assist”(assistance to a goal) truly means, a creative pass with an intention to provide the receiving player with an opportunity to score a goal. If the modern game of football is really evolving like we believe it is, then it’s time to redefine and reevaluate how we view this stats.
