Namibia really said “nah, we’re good” to faster, cheaper internet 😭 Blocking Starlink to “protect local industry” just means protecting slow speeds, high prices, and buffering in 2026. At this point we’re not regulating progress, we’re gatekeeping it.

I love and respect the #MadlangaCommission but their staff handled the Interpreter issue horribly. 3 interpreters later and uTata Madlanga was still the one correcting interpreters for that sgebenga.

JUST IN: The Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) has rejected an application by Starlink to provide satellite internet services in Namibia. In a notice published in the Government Gazette today, the regulator confirmed that it declined both a Class Comprehensive Telecommunications Service Licence and a Spectrum Licence sought by the American-based company. The spectrum application would have enabled Starlink to operate fixed satellite services across Namibia using designated frequency bands. The company’s submission indicated it has no Namibian shareholding, a scenario that might have played out in the rejection of the application. Namibian policy directives have pushed for 51% local ownership in telecommunications companies, although CRAN and the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology are empowered to determine minimum local shareholding participation in the sector. In the Government Gazette today, CRAN said the decision was taken in line with provisions of the Communications Act, 2009, although detailed reasons were not disclosed in the notice. The authority noted that full reasons for the decision can be requested. Starlink, linked to tech entrepreneur Elon Musk, has been expanding its satellite internet footprint globally, targeting underserved and remote areas with high-speed connectivity. CRAN further indicated that, in terms of the law, it may reconsider its decision within 90 days either on its own initiative or upon petition by an aggrieved party.

@sile_siba And Sovi 'My Benevolence' would say let's empower our up and coming interpreters. Let's see this as development.

@AfricaisBlack @madabukakusa That is besides the point. The whole point is that it is not Mkhwanazi who decided not to deal with the whole letter.

Using terms of reference as an excuse for selective disclosure is a classic procedural shield. You can’t claim to be fighting political interference while hiding your own political maneuvering behind the scenes. Following the terms of reference shouldn't mean shielding the truth about Ramaphosa and Maumela while hanging others out to dry.

These revelations creates the impression that Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi is not a "neutral" truth teller, but rather a gatekeeper who decides which secrets get out and which stay buried. While his testimony made him look like a fearless leader standing up to political pressure, but this frame him as a participant in a larger, more complex game of political chess. Why was Mkhwanazi loud about other politicians but silent on the Morgan/Ramaphosa connection mentioned here? Selective amnesia in the #AdHocCommittee is just another form of protection. We thought we were getting the whole truth. Instead, it looks like we got a curated version. Mkhwanazi didn't just give testimony, he gave a performance. Who else is being shielded behind the scenes? #SAPS

@SikelelaThina @Mickzo "I am not much of a Christian but I am not afraid to die. Christians pray a lot but they fear death" I think he is just another "good" man who has not seen the grace of God. Nothing really "off".

Bringing up this photo so as to intend to silence us from critiquing Mkhwanazi and demanding full disclosure of the truth and not half truths is stupid. We defended Mkhwanazi before his live presser, and even after. That can never mean we can’t demand that he maintains integrity and not mislead us. ♥️
Dr.Simon Cauke@DrCauke

@SixoGcilishe It was the EFF that took it to the streets in defence of Mkhwanazi because it was necessary to do so. And we'll criticise him as it is necessary to do!
