everyone ships “sync.” almost nobody ships sync that survives two offline devices. here’s the difference

spent all saturday deep in @outlmd’s sync plumbing. gap-aware vector clock, dedup on ingest, cross-process append lock. none of it shows up on screen. and that’s where the hard part lives: there’s no fixed base. it’s master/master (Postgres multi-master style). every device is a source of truth, every device edits offline, and the tree has to reconcile without corrupting when they meet again “sync” is easy when a server calls the shots. p2p with no central authority is a different game

file sync looks like a UX detail. it isn't. Dropbox and Google Drive still corrupt your tree on a basic move in 2026. i tested it. they do. outl beta ships today. three clients, one workspace folder, a tree-CRDT that converges. no cloud lock-in. outl.app/blog/outl-beta…

first beta of @outlmd is live runs on mac, linux, windows, terminal and iPhone. one binary, markdown on disk, no Electron, no cloud it’s rough. a lot still to build. but I’d rather ship it ugly and fix it in the open than polish it in private for another year outl.app/download #foss #opensource #pkm #note #testflight

tired of note apps that ship a whole browser to render bullet points. so I’m building the outliner I actually want: terminal-first, local-first, #Markdown as source of truth. your notes stay files you can grep and git. first build’s live on #TestFlight
