i love the "its inevitable so why fight it" argument coming from rich older women who spend a lot of time and money fighting another supposedly inevitable thing

#Cannes jury member Demi Moore says we need to "find ways" to work with AI: "Against-ness breeds against-ness. AI is here. So to fight it is to fight a battle that we will lose. So to find ways that we can work with it is a valuable path that we can take."

I'm sorry but the position that there's a 10% chance of human extinction because "computer too big" is wacky. Just because some rich powerful people believe it does not make it more reasonable.

Demi Moore at #Cannes says Hollywood must "find ways" to work with AI and "to fight it is a battle we will lose..." "There really isn’t anything to fear because what it can never replace is what true art comes from, which is not the physical. It comes from the soul. It comes from the spirit of each and every one of us sitting here, to each and every one of us who creates every day. And that they can never recreate through something that is technical.” variety.com/2026/film/fest…

This is very misleading. Joe Biden did not pass a single pro worker bill. If you want to give him credit for the macro economy, then you also have to give him the blame for inflation. Lina Khan was great. But most pro worker is doing a lot of heavy lifting for “did nothing big.”
James Surowiecki@JamesSurowiecki

Joe Biden was the most worker-friendly president of the postwar era. His economic policies quickly got the economy back to full employment. He appointed Lina Khan to run antitrust policy. He saved the NLRB from what Trump had done to it. And he was incredibly unpopular.

I often think about this the other way around. That Americans don't realize how unfathomably rich they are. Most of the world does not have refrigerators with built-in ice/water dispensers

From @WSJopinion: What happens when Europeans find out how poor they are? The Continent trails far behind U.S. economic output. Politics is bound to catch up sooner or later, writes Joseph Sternberg. on.wsj.com/4n5v2Wq
