@metalrogue64 From our view, gas stations that trade prepared food for money are restaurants. See also: Wawa, Buc-ee’s, Sheetz, California’s many Punjabi-owned dhabas, and on and on

Curiously, Terrible’s boasts on marketing materials and its own exterior walls that there are 60 bathrooms, though signage inside indicates 63, counting all stalls and urinals. Better to underpromise and overdeliver. sfgate.com/travel/article…

Has anyone in LA ever been to this shop? It has a 1.9 star review on Yelp. The hundreds of bad reviews talk about the owners being impatient, berating customers for browsing; even hurling insults at potential buyers for their lack of music knowledge. The occasional good reviews all say they came in for specific purchases, the owner told them the same story about his collection and then they leave. I went a few years ago randomly after walking by, I ended up with a record but it was a pretty brutal experience honestly. 1/2

@hearinladotcom @longdrivesouth As for SFGATE's coverage and viewpoint: Prior to this current job I was senior editor at Eater LA for nearly a decade. I live here, and love LA the absolute most. SFGATE has a standalone bureau of Angeleno reporters who live and report here. We're not writing in from SF.

@hearinladotcom @longdrivesouth Thanks for the map! I always agree that the San Fernando Valley and South LA deserve as much attention as they can get. LA is massive, Bill is one person, and we really need to include the work of co-critic Jenn Harris in this convo. It would be disingenuous otherwise.

@hearinladotcom @longdrivesouth An unfortunately misguided take. They have reviewed places all over the Valley and beyond this year! Just because you didn't read it, or it's behind a paywall, does not mean that it didn't happen.

@longdrivesouth Looking forward to Bill reviewing restaurants north of Ventura Blvd., and south of West Adams. Long live the same old beaten paths from DTLA to the beach from the Hollywood Hills to the 10, but one thing people loved about Jonathan Gold was he explored ALL of LA.

@midwesternIdiot Happy to help. (also, not sure what you think the 'take' is. The story is about how the barbecue scene is growing in Las Vegas -- not that Las Vegas has supplanted any of the major existing barbecue places in America. In fact, the story talks about this extensively!)

Why are L.A. restaurants so freaking loud? A screaming martini order at a packed Los Feliz hotspot sent writer and humorist Dave Schilling down a surprisingly revealing rabbit hole. lamaterial.com/p/why-are-l-a-…

“The traffic in the Flower Market just stopped. People were scared.” Tremendously sobering reporting here from @KarenLPalmer on the effects of ICE raids on the economy of LA’s Santee Alley: sfgate.com/la/article/san…
