@jkowall Yes, I know what you mean and I know you guys are doing that, but that was not the approach we used at CoScale. Some host based network metrics were included but it was certainly not the cornerstone of our technology.

@p_arijs I'll disagree with that one somewhat. Doing a host-based analysis of network communications is a form of network analytics. I'm not saying they are aggregating or analyzing packets, which is another approach that has benefits and limits.

@jkowall The point was that CoScale is not network analytics. It's application aware infra monitoring with an agent optimized for container environments. Something most APM vendors still don't get. Putting an agent in your container is not the answer!

@DataCenterTT @newrelic @coscale .@newrelic made a VERY interesting move here. @CoScale has focused on #K8s monitoring specifically for 2 years, and thus has developed some advanced container monitoring features. Potentially important competitive / product implications enterprise IT pros should be aware of.

After 4 fab years at @coscale I have decided to take a sabbatical to focus on my other passion: wine! I will still keep in touch with the IT world, but will probably be a bit less active here. You can follow my wine mumblings on @peterarijs.

This is why you need lightweight container monitoring! Classical APM tool using almost a full core of CPU on a small Kubernetes cluster, 10 times more than @coscale does!

I'd love to give back by giving free coding classes, more specifically for/aimed at underrepresented groups.. But I find myself having trouble with selecting proper material and deciding for what age range it would be most suitable.

Late read after vacation, but fully agree with @ttunguz on this. We might still miss some traditional monitoring features at @coscale, but clients choose us because we're far ahead on the container monitoring front, which is our competitive differentiator! tomtunguz.com/why-your-start…

@ttunguz Interesting as always. How did you calculate "share of winnings per category"?

So I came back to this a couple of days later because I think is probably one of the most interesting things @mipsytipsy has talked about recently but will largely be ignored by the community at large. Many engineers' attitudes about marketing are wrong, and frankly harmful. twitter.com/mipsytipsy/sta…

I've been employed as systems engineer since I was 17 years old, over half my life. Computers are twisty and interesting and require some diligence, but they aren't *hard*. You know what is hard? Marketing.
