DC Comics' "The Death of Superman" became national news. Rise of young comics including Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock. Elite work from established Hollywood stars, breakouts of new stars and filmmakers, classic blockbuster films (and late night TV hosts who promoted the business instead of lecturing audiences). Nostalgia for the 1990s is strong because excellence across multiple arenas in pop culture was obvious and undeniable, and this excellence enhanced our quality of life. Fame had to be earned, we could enjoy things together, and algorithms had yet to atomize and divide us. It was an amazing time to be alive.
