And yeah, ticket pre-sales kicked off on WED for #SUPERGIRL at US #BoxOffice, and like #WonderWoman did pre-covid, the DC film starring #MillyAlcock tries to be a turning point for female superhero films Post-Covid, after first 2 days of pre-sales coming 2.5x ahead of #TheMarvels, almost on par with #BlackWidow and 1.1x ahead of #Thunderbolts. Interesting but not as relevant, #SUPERGIRL’s first 2 days of pre-sales are 2x ahead of #F1’s, which by the way came out on the same weekend last SUMMER 2025. Obviously, CBMs are way more pre-sales heavy than movies such as F1, so this should be kept in mind as well. Also, I don’t like to use FALL comps for SUMMER films, but since I’ve already mentioned #TheMarvels, well, #SUPERGIRL’s first two days of Pre-Sales are 1.5x ahead of #BlackAdam’s. Even considering that pre-sales for SUMMER releases usually are more front-loaded than FALL Season ones, that could lead to an opening weekend above #BlackAdam’s 67M and around #Thunderbolts’s 74M territory. Can #SUPERGIRL stop the female superhero downtrend and send the ladies flying up, up and away? We will see as pre-sales progresses if she has the strength to make it happen, but if the blondie’s pre-sales maintain momentum specially compared to #BlackWidow & #Thunderbolts, and the movie ends up well received, that could genuinely give #SUPERGIRL a shot to challenge #BlackWidow herself as the biggest opening weekend for female superhero films Post-Covid. And IF - a big IF here - that happens, #SUPERGIRL would then become the #3 biggest debut of all time for female superhero films. But only time - and marketing push - will tell. Regardless, #SUPERGIRL seems like it will at the very least be able to claim the title of biggest opening ever for any film featuring the blond heroine, way above #TheFlash’s 55M debut. and crushing 1984 #Supergirl’s entire 14.3M run domestically. I know, the bar was never any high, but a win is a win! Even so, clearly it’s gonna be a far cry below #SUPERMAN’s 125M debut last year, as #Supes had a 2-day kickoff almost 2x stronger than the younger lady cousin, although I don’t know that anyone expected #SUPERGIRL to match her cousin’s opening, for several obvious reasons. Also, as we always remind folks, this was just the beginning of pre-sales, and so much can change depending on how well the marketing team plays their cards from now onwards. But not gonna lie, SUPERGIRL started much better than even I expected. #SUPERGIRL debuts on JUN 26
