Eran has sat down for documentaries and given raw testimony so the world understands exactly what happened at Nova that day. He calls the victims his “children,” and you can hear the catch in his voice when he talks about them. Eran didn’t have to put on his old IDF uniform, travel 200kms to the border area, say he was the ‘officer in charge’ to placate terrorised young people or force the bus drivers to drive them to safety. He didn’t have to load of the bodies at Nova, or shoot terrorists. He could have just stayed home. Instead, he risked his life to save others. He acted heroically, and when asked if he knew he was a hero, he simply shrugged and said he was Israeli, it was his duty. Hero.
