One thing on the McSweeney mobile saga. As I wrote, I contacted the Met to ask if any efforts had been made to locate the phone or the messages contained on it. They told me twice they wouldn't look into it unless I provided details of the theft, including a crime number. This is one of the biggest international political scandals for a generation. The British people have a right to transparency. And the police and the government are doing everything possible to keep that transparency to a minimum.

Following many requests I finally got round to making this video explaining how our energy bills are derived I cover the breakdown of bills, why changing price formation in wholesale markets (getting off "the most expensive form of generation") would make no difference to bills, and some things that actually would cut both bills and costs youtu.be/T62amjK_I5Y

“He went bright pink and remained bright pink for the rest of the afternoon” It is “significant” that the cross-party committee questioning Keir Starmer today were essentially saying “the waffle doesn’t cut it anymore”, says Times Radio presenter @adamboultonTABB.

No, you are wrong Windfarms cause significant disruption with land given over to new roads to bring construction equipment in etc And it's the most expensive form of electricity imposing huge costs on consumers... Massive subsidies to cover the capital costs, huge costs of connections due to the low energy density, huge costs for backup and £billions per year in additional balancing costs And after that they actually not recycled. Most turbines end up in landfill Why are you making stuff up??

@PippaCrerar One extremely important phrase that Starmer continually omits when speaking about British national interests “ IN MY OPINION “……… as the majority of PM’s consider they act on behalf of our national interests. The fundamental question, is Starmer’s opinion the correct one ?

Keir Starmer's 'Love Actually' moment (sort of) at liaison committee after weeks of insults from Donald Trump. Asked about the US president's "quite rude" comments, PM said: “A lot of what is said or done is undoubtedly said and done to put pressure on me, I have no doubt about that. I understand what is going on. “But I am not going to waver on this. I am the British Prime Minister and my job is to be absolutely focused on what is in the British national interest."

Saying all the oil and gas is owned by private companies implies that the state has no interest and they can do what they want with it Neither is true... The state earns significant royalties from the production and the products can only go where infrastructure allows So even if the state retained ownership of the oil once produced we can't insist on it being shipped to the UK if we lack the refinery capacity to process it So these ownership arguments are a red herring just like most of the anti North Sea arguments The fact is we have significant resources we could produce earning material benefit to the UK while lowering emissions yet some people are dead set against it. It's bizarre

Stop this. You KNOW it's nonsense Lower the wholesale price will not lower bills because renewables are guaranteed a price that is higher than the cost of generating electricity with gas So when you lower the wholesale price you will increase policy costs on a one for one basis with the CfD Trying to change wholesale price formation would be hugely disruptive for no benefit And if renewables are so cheap why is your green tariff higher than the price cap?? Seriously, you need to pipe down until you put your money where your mouth is

You are so wrong.. Under the Petroleum Act 1998 the state owns all the oil and gas. It's produced by private companies under licence 100% of the gas comes onto the GB grid because that's where the pipes go. It's not optional 😂 Most of the oil goes to overseas refineries because we only have four refineries left. Our refineries have to pay carbon taxes. Imported refined products do not and are not included in the CBAM, so are at a huge structural disadvantage Amazing how green lobbyists are putting out all this misi all of a sudden 🙄

@clarescastle @Ameer_Kotecha Very strange. John McDonald MP appears to be strengthening his opposition & requiring an internal inquiry by PLP…..problem he doesn’t have a majority. Also the press are rightly concentrating on international events but eventually this has to be challenged

I find it genuinely perplexing how Starmer became PM. He doesn’t seem to have any real aptitude for any of the things politics involves. He is a robotic speaker, not a deep policy thinker, no natural political antenna. And he clearly hates every minute of being cross examined even in a very civilised manner - isn’t that meant to be bread and butter for a former barrister?!

Here's Keir Starmer's response to the many, many jibes that have been levelled at him by Donald Trump, from saying he's no Winston Churchill to mocking him with Saturday Night Live clip He sees it all as an attempt to put pressure on him and insists he won't back down 'A lot of what is said or done is undoubtedly said and done to put pressure on me, I have no doubt about that. I understand what is going on. 'But I am not going to wavering on this. I am the British Prime Minister and my job is to be absolutely focused on what is in the British national interest'

@clarescastle @Ameer_Kotecha Excellent analysis & due to the media also wanting a change, he was never properly challenged during the GE. Unfortunately though most MPs owe their seat to Labour Together & will allow his premiership to stumble along being dictated to by the PLP.

@Ameer_Kotecha Starmer had misplaced confidence in Reeves’ knowledge, Sue Gray’s abilities, and McSweeney’s dark arts. Winning motivates him, but governing is quite beyond him. His skillset is unsuited to the top job, but so many sycophants in Labour, and our left-leaning media propped him up.

British Gas, Renewables UK, Octopus Energy, the GMB trade union, and even Tony Blair agree we need to be drilling in the North Sea. The Jackdaw field alone has enough gas to heat 1.6 million homes. Ed Miliband’s obsessive net zero zealotry makes us poorer and more vulnerable.

Mr Reed also implies that we successfully defended Diego Garcia from Iranian missile attack. Untrue. Let’s set the record straight: One Iranian ballistic missile failed in flight — malfunctioned mid-flight or broke up on re-entry. Either way it never reached the target area. The other was engaged/intercepted by a U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyer nearby, which fired an SM-3 interceptor at it and destroyed it. UK forces played no part in the defence of Diego Garcia. Nor do they have the capability to do so. Mr Reed says UK won’t be dragged into the US’s War. Fair enough. But he’s happy for the US to defend what is a British base — and didn’t even thank them for it.
Andrew Neil@afneil

Like so many ministers in the Starmer government (maybe most) this minister — Steve Reed — has no idea what he’s talking about and is totally out of his depth. Which, when the matter is national security, is rather serious.

Reed, like other Ministers pandering to a core vote. However, he deliberately misleads, Islam is a religion not a race, hence Timothy words weren’t anti Muslim - Fact. Plus he never answered the point about open public segregation ? and also he totally misunderstands the difference in prayer between religions, which is vital in this debate.

So what? I'm past the middle of my life. Shall I stop getting medical care and stop learning new things because I'm nearer death than birth Being mature doesn't mean being useless We have PLENTY of oil and gas left. These are ASSETS we can use to boost tax income, support jobs, support British industry and yes, lower energy bills as every bit of gas we produce displaces more expensive LNG imports

Miliband's strategy is nonsensical... To build out weather dependant generation and to electrify so the whole economy depends on the weather Even if this was a sensible strategy it would take years, even decades to deliver And in the meantime he just keeps crossing his fingers nothing bad happens This isn't just idiotic it's irresponsible

“There is no comparison “ to Boris Johnson missing phone…..incredible statement, especially as Reed just said Morgan McSweeney phone reported over a year ago ……why then when the Govt keep saying they’ve been totally transparent wasn’t this mentioned when Humble Address requested data & only has come to light following a journalistic scoop !!!!!! Starmer promised to restore trust in politics with honesty & transparency….this must be one if not the worst Govt ever for misleading the public.

Minister in the same sentence contradicts himself “ we’re doing whatever we can to de-escalate this situation “……..”the Uk will not be dragged in ..”…….now look at FACTS, UK bases being used by US, RAF flying missions to intercept drones/missiles ……hmmmm isn’t that being dragged in ? ….and to allow use of bases isn’t de-escalation Total mixed messaging all aimed at the voting public.
