Having spent the Sundays of my youth as a fanatical follower of @williamsf1, it was a special treat to meet @HillF1 I'm sure he gets the same questions every day, but he and his wife Georgie couldn't have been more generous with their time and indulgence of my enthusiasm 😊

I'm 38. When I was young I worshipped politics, went woke (broke) & believed in the myth of equality. Then I discovered Thomas Sowell, and he changed my life forever. 12 lessons from America's most controversial & unknown philosopher:

Ireland's police and justice systems are really focusing efforts on tackling the major issues that will tear through the fabric of our society! Tomorrow's case - the elderly lady that reused postage stamps to get 10 years to life. 🙄

I think the world badly needs a bit more of a People Before Politics/Power/Borders perspective about now.

@TheFuds @seaniecain The point is the opposite - bogs are fantastic in many ways, so we need to preserve them . . . as bogs.

@paddyfinn @seaniecain Gosh I must have missed the 'peat' catastrophe class! Who knew the bogs would end life as we know it here in our little island...

The final peat train to Edenderry Power Station passing Cloncreen this morning. The passing into history of a huge part of the heritage of the Midlands and of County Offaly. No Green politicians to be seen out acknowledging history, I guess it's not a windfarm opening photo op.

@TheFuds @seaniecain Harm? You know, global warming destroying homes and livelihood, and devastation to our biodiversity etc. - little things like that. Teagasc have a number of online publications on this and there are articles like the one below in Nature and other journals nature.com/articles/d4158…

@paddyfinn @seaniecain What harm do they cause, how is this measured, has ireland failed in some way usong this process, and how does that compare with say large industrial emissions

@TheFuds @seaniecain The main problem isn't the burning of the turf/peat. When you drain the bogs for harvesting or turf cutting, it causes the bogs to release thousands of years of embodied gases into the atmosphere - which are far more harmful than just the burning itself. Bogs need to be kept wet

@RonEng1ish This is disgraceful & reprehensible behaviour by anyone and can't be justified, but the reality is that being Muslim or an immigrant doesn't make someone a scumbag. Being a scumbag makes someone a scumbag. We have plenty of our own that are white and Irish. What's the difference?

@Niall_Boylan If a party said they would hire high calibre professionals from the corresponding sectors to serve as Ministers, rather than appointing them from the panel of TDs with no relevant experience - they'd have my vote!

The next election is not too far away and who will you vote for? FG who don’t listen to the people until it’s too late. FF who are like FGs twin brother and will go into government with anybody just to keep their jobs. The Greens who would ban you from flying away on holidays and tax the CO2 coming from your mouth if they could. Sinn Fein who are the worst opposition party in history and have already said puberty blockers should be prescribed for teenagers while they sat around for the last four years like a cheek of the government arse. Labour, remember them? Actually forget I even mentions them. PBP who would open all the borders and let the immigration madness continue, allow unrestricted abortions, support genderless children and god knows what else. We need to start all over again when it comes to how this country is run because not one of these parties speak for the majority of the people of Ireland.

@markfoleyce I fully agree. Even if the conclusion is not to pursue it, the decision should be based on a continually revised merit order of options, considered dispassionately and logically on a holistic basis.
