The Oliha title is one of the oldest and most ancient titles in Benin Kingdom that predates both the Obaship and the Ogiso dynasty, with origin that date back the edionwere system of government in Idu land. This was the earliest period of the Idu people, where the land was ruled by selected elders who come together and run the affairs of the land. The oliha title is over a thousand years in Benin history and still maintains a single hereditary line. Chief Oliha, as the head of the Uzama n'irhinron, is responsible for crowning the Oba and previously inducted the crown prince now edaiken into the uzama council. He acts as guardian of the Uzama shrine and the lord over evbo-oliha "Oliha's town." He is beating the ivory equestrian figure during the 1979 festival, celebrating his instalation as the leader of the Uzama council. -Chief Oliha Equestrian Figure
