Absolutely thrilled that our monograph on the British holotype of Mantellisaurus atherfieldensis is finally out today! Years in the making, and the largest chunk of my PhD thesis. Feels good to see it! tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

Another day, another dinosaur auction. A world where dinosaur skeletons can fetch tens of millions of dollars within a few minutes at auctions is not a world where dinosaurs will long be accessible to educate and inspire everyone. My thoughts for @CNN cnn.com/2025/07/18/sci…

@fishboy86164577 @eriorguez His multiple new characters are often just geographical ones, he’s used the location of fossil finds more than once in phylogenies without telling anyone.

@eriorguez Would be cool if we could try to duplicate this result with the “multiple new characters” Longrich added to his analysis that aren’t listed or recorded anywhere in neither the paper or supplementary. Very replicable

@HoudzGeorge You could say that, yes, a long story but not for here. I wouldn’t worry you’re not missing out!

@Paleofolk It’s not you it’s them Filippo! Academia is completely broken. You can be the best of the best and it’s still not good enough somehow 🤷‍♂️

Basically, what I did so far (aka, for the entirety of my life) is not bad but not excellent. Thus, apparently not worthy of getting a contract. I did what I could, and that was no enough. I feel strong imposter syndrome here. Damn it.

A little before those feedbacks, I did a postdoc interview. I know possibilities are limited, and that other possibilities are waiting, but damn, the words I read in those feedbacks really hit hard, and gave me strong anxiety about myself as a researcher

My latest book - A History of Dinosaurs in 50 Fossils - is at the printers & due out this autumn with a US edition from @NMNH & a UK edition from @NHM_London. It tells the story of dino discoveries & changing views on their biology through the lens of some of my favourite fossils

Nice surprise that our paper investigating archosauromorph skull sizes was one of the top cited papers in Palaeontology over the last few years! 🦖🦕🐊 Read more about big-headed weirdos here: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.11…

Check out our take on the pre K-Pg decline of dinos in this beautifully written thread by lead author @bethany_j_allen - in short, the model assumptions really matter!

Lots of articles about why academia has such a problem with bullying, but in what other industry could you lose your employer ~£1 million by being a horrific bully and then not only keep your job but be allowed on radio 4 to talk about how amazing you are at it?

Looking for the names of journals (preferably with a paleo-focus) that permit abstracts in multiple languages (not just the language of the country where the journal is based) First one to come to mind is Palaeontologia Electronica (@PalaeoE) - are many there others?

Today’s the day - 200 years since Buckland gave his seminal presentation @GeolSoc on Megalosaurus, revealing his ‘great lizard’ to the world. Here’s a selection of bones ⁦⁦⁦@NHM_London⁩ worked on by Richard Owen and others in their early studies on the species 🦖🦖🦖
