Deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Joe Average on Xmas Eve. Joe was an iconic #Vancouver artist and activist whose work had a profound impact on our city’s arts and culture scene. The @SpaceCentreYVR is just one of many organization that was touched by Joe’s incredible generosity and philanthropic gifts through his artwork. In the late 1990s, Joe was commissioned by friend Michael Harding, Chair of the fundraising campaign at the time, to create a piece that helped revitalize the Centre's technology and exhibition space (see photo - 1996 circa). This iconic artwork remains a cherished part of the Space Centre's history. Joe’s creativity, activism, philanthropy & passion lifted our community to new heights. It was Larry Beasley & his boss Larry Campbell who first agreed to the contract amendment that allowed Concord this 20+ year delay. Since then the 9.06 acre waterfront park has morfed into a strip park under the Skytrain tracks. Concord Landing indeed!
