Several members of our team just got back from BlackECE’s SECOND annual Symposium with its groundbreaking theme of "Dismantling Linguistic Oppression: The Path Toward Language Justice for Black Children in Early Care and Education.” When we talk about culturally and linguistically affirming care, what we mean is….. A) formal recognition that Black language exists, B) acceptance of Black language in the classroom, and C) inclusion of Black language in early learning education, research, and policy. Lily Stewart, our Policy & Advocacy Associate at the Network, provided public comment during the state’s first Select Committee on Child Care Costs. She highlighted the role that resource and referrals (R&Rs) play within the child care ecosystem and how they can uniquely speak to the local needs of both parents and providers. Today, we're highlighting 4Cs in Alameda County. 4Cs has many programs and offerings for families and providers in English and Spanish. There is monthly food distribution, in-person and online learning opportunities for child care providers, and a children's fair May 17th.
