@SocialWorkEng I agree about time. Parents with LD who are being assessed need time to process information and learning. Often timescales within the family courts are too restrictive for parents with LD . I recently wrote an article on timescales in Family Proceedings parentassess.com/article/assess…

“We need to make sure that social workers have the time to reflect and the time to spend with individuals, to go on that extra visit or take that extra call and not be tied to a desk. That’s something we should feel strongly about.” Jack Skinner

@SocialWorkEng In ParentAssess we focus on the needs of parents with LD who frequently do not know of the rights that could afford them protection and improved access to services. We consider the power imbalance and work hard to help parents understand assessment processes and outcomes.

Are human rights mentioned in assessments and support plans? How are we supporting people with learning disabilities to know, understand and exercise their rights? Some interesting takeaways to reflect on and consider this morning.

@socialworkaward What a memorable week! Meeting up with the other award winners at the Houses of Parliament and hearing some very moving speeches , reminding us all of the need to challenge negative labels to enable the person to thrive. #SWA #parentassess

@RichardDevineSW Very useful. In many UK child deaths SCRs a common feature is the presence of a step parent which would suggest we need to better understand the dynamics in these families and consider possible risk indicators.

In this week's episode, I interviewed Professor Colin Pritchard on his research on who kills children. A difficult, but important subject. Colin is one of top 100 most influential academics, and was full of practice wisdom, compassion, and insight. buzzsprout.com/2073535/119123…

@BASW_UK @JoeEHanley @SocialWorkEng It seems a harsh line to take for a caring profession in the middle of a cost of living crisis. Many of us did not find it a particularly easy process to navigate. Rather than blame can’t they find a solution which lets SWs feel ‘cared for’ ?

Parents with disabilities can receive important advice and support from OTs to improve their living environment, which in turn can positively impact on their ability to parent. I have worked with excellent OTs who have made such a positive difference. #learningdisability
