Due to mounting public and media pressure, the State of Illinois was forced to pause the construction of Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson's winter migrant tent camp after a report was released late Friday night that showed toxic levels of mercury, asbestos, and DEHP that were unsafe for human inhalation OUTDOORS at the long-contaminated site. Despite these warnings, Johnson was moving forward with building the $29M camp with private contractor GardaWorld before construction was halted. This migrant money scandal deserves much deeper scrutiny. Why was it so important to build a migrant camp on toxic land? Why this land? Who has gotten paid and how much?
