Large companies make their OWN future with innovation, leading markets. Most board debates about global trends are usually about timing. Too early, you are toast. Too late, out of the game. Futurist keynote speaker Patrick Dixon commenting on how corporations develop strategy. The truth is that many global trends change more slowly than most people imagine.

Life in 2100: About to give Logistics / AI keynote here in Sweden at @LogistikTrender. Some things will change v slowly eg ship size (limited by Panama / Suez canals), truck size (road strength and width of roads), and container size (to fit). But AI will completely transform how freight is managed - within the next 10-15 years and far beyond. AI will also set up and manage its own direct “factory to home” businesses within 20 years, competing with traditional warehousing pattern - like Temu x 100,000.

Thanks to everyone! 20 years ago I predicted physical books would do well - most other Futurists said they would die. Record numbers physical books bought last year in the UK. Biggest age group buying is 18-30 year olds who are also flooding into local libraries, fed up with constant eye strain from smartphones.

TRUTH ABOUT TRADE WAR: over next 2 months >100 nations will offer the White House "better trade terms" and a wide range of other concessions - economic and political. Most will be accepted in exchange for lighter Tarrifs. Expect a big White House announcement - effectively "Liberation Day II" - before October, claiming trillions of dollars of additional US exports will now flow largely tariff free over the next decade, that most of 2nd April tariffs have been massively reduced or cancelled, and that White House policy of "America First" has "won yet again". However, there is major risk of further chaos caused by multiple conflicting government announcements. TRUTH about the US Trade War - what next?? Market forces more powerful than Presidents. FACTS: Within a week of 2nd April Tarriffs: 1. Stocks collapsed. 2. Corporate investments cancelled. 3. Investors demanded higher interest on money lent to US government. 4. Tarrifs largely suspended - at least 90 days. 5. Trust lost in reliability of US trade policy. 6. Status of US weakened. 7. US opinion polls show voters becoming worried. 8. Frenzy of diplomacy / trade delegations from other governments to White House. EXPECT multiple new trade deals to be announced by White House, completed in 3-6 months, boosting US exports in exchange for lower tarrifs. And common sense will prevail in markets - eventually. But some risk of contagion and longer term economic issues.

US Tarrifs and Trade War: 4 hours after my opening keynote today at massive @logisticsworld event in Mexico, President Trump confirmed 25% import tariffs "until Fentanyl illegal drug trafficking emergency sorted out". But take a look at the charts I showed today: Fentanyl, Cocaine and Heroin seizures are already massively down, as is illegal cross-border migration. These and other factors tell us that the 25% tariff for Mexico exports to US will likely end up being far lower after negotiations conclude. Same is likely in many other nations, especially Canada which has hardly any Fentanyl cross-border traffic - attention-grabbing tariffs will be followed by lower profile downward adjustments.

Chaotic times! Am in Mexico City: giving opening keynote on Future Logistics" to 2000 people tomorrow morning - during which details of President Trump's "Liberation Day" trade tariffs will be announced. Expect huge opportunities for those with CASH and AGILITY, able to find and re-redirect products at speed into different markets, using digital tools including AI to keep industry / retail moving. Just had a shocking AI experience at @IlkleyLiteratureFest as I was interviewed by @gregwrightYP about my new book "How AI will Change Your Life" - session sold out. At my suggestion, Maya joined us as an AI person. Conversation lively and unpredictable, in 100% natural voice, sharp insights etc, responding to ongoing debate with humour and sensitivity.
