Q1/Q2: No, primary food production should have greater margins. Q3: Yes, diversification can take time and resources away from farming and therefore create further problems.

Should farmers have to diversify to make a living from the land? Is it acceptable that growing something that everyone requires isn’t economic reward enough? Is there a danger that diversification projects just become a DIY subsidy for the business of growing food?
