Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor just shared, in a panel discussion along with Justice Neil Gorsuch, that in the USA, we spend $54 per student on STEM courses, and only $.05 on Civics education. #sschat @SocialStudiesMN @NCSSNetwork @CivXNow

Erdoğan closed Bilgi, Turkey’s oldest private university, without explanation. His loyal media rushed to justify it with every possible rationale. Now, after his sudden U-turn, they’re desperately trying to explain the inexplicable.

Three days ago, Erdoğan shut down Bilgi University, one of Turkey’s leading private universities, mid-semester. Bilgi’s students have been barred from campus, but they are resisting. Other universities have been mostly silent, doubtless for fear of becoming Erdoğan’s next target.

Ousted CHP leader Ozgur Izel addresses the nation from party headquarters as they are being taken over by riot police. He vows to carry his party's struggle for democracy to the streets. Might this be a turning point in the fight against Erdogan's naked authoritarianism? People are rightly fearful because police are notoriously violent and the slightest criticism could land you in jail-- or worse-- as seen during Gezi.

The Articles of Confederation created a loose “league of friendship” among 13 sovereign states with a limited central government. Because it could not levy taxes, raise a standing army, or effectively regulate interstate commerce, the system proved unworkable and was later replaced by the U.S. Constitution. Tonight, the Russians struck Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities and communities. The largest number of missiles was directed at the capital – at ordinary residential buildings, at schools; they burned down a food market, one of Kyiv’s oldest markets. The Russian strike effectively destroyed the Chornobyl Museum, damaged the National Art Museum and the building housing the office of Germany’s ARD. As of now, 69 people have been reported injured in the capital. Tragically, two people were killed in this senseless Russian attack. My condolences to everyone who has lost family members and loved ones. I have already spoken with the President of France and the Prime Minister of Norway. There will be further communication with our partners today. I am grateful to everyone who is not staying silent about what Russia is doing. They are waging war solely against our people – against our memory, our history, and everything that makes up normal human life. It is important that Russia understands that they will be held accountable for all these crimes.

Canada strongly condemns Russia’s launch of large-scale missile and drone attacks on civilian targets in Kyiv tonight. For more than four years since Russia’s illegal invasion, it has greatly underestimated the courage, determination, and strength of the Ukrainian people — even as Putin’s regime has relentlessly bombed Ukrainian energy infrastructure, schools, hospitals, and homes. We call on Russia to immediately cease these strikes and end this illegal war of aggression. They prolong human suffering and do nothing to change the fact that Russia will lose this war. Canada will continue working closely with international partners to secure a just and lasting peace for Ukraine and Europe.

Kyiv. The City of Courage
This may be the most infernal night in Kyiv since the start of the full-scale war. Dozens of ballistic missiles, crusie missiles, hypersonic missiles and drones attacking the capital non-stop. Explosions are so loud, that the ground is shaking. Just praying that everyone sees the sunrise alive and safe.

Rubio says that US-led peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine "were not fruitful." Not fruitful? Let’s look at the facts: your negotiators visited Russia seven times, and Ukraine zero times. You demanded concessions from Ukraine before negotiations even began, and throughout the entire process. You pressured Ukraine by cutting off weapons support entirely, constantly badmouthing us, and showing up at our doorstep waving Russian "peace plan" you demanded we sign immediately. And now, after Ukraine stands more firmly on its feet without your support, you realize you can't pressure us anymore. So your excuse is that you are tired and leaving? How about, for once, you actually support the victim, which is Ukraine instead of terrorist Russian regime? Send your team to Kyiv, support our fight, and apply real pressure on aggressor. Sanction Russia and seize their shadow fleet instead of handing out sanction waivers. Do that, and maybe negotiations will magically become "fruitful."

Sen. Kennedy: Is Russia our friend? Gen. Smith: Sir, they're not. Sen. Kennedy: Between Ukraine and Russia, who do we want to win that war? Gen. Smith: Obviously, we want Ukraine to stand independently and not be consumed by Russia. Sen. Kennedy: When Putin went into Ukraine, he thought he was going to roll in and take it over in two days like thunder on a summer night, didn't he? Gen. Smith: I believe he did. Sen. Kennedy: But Ukrainian people have fought back, haven't they? Gen. Smith: Yes, sir, they've fought back. Sen. Kennedy: And they now have some of the most sophisticated drone technology in the history of the world, don't they? Gen. Smith: Sir, they do. They're doing very well with drones. Sen. Kennedy: And with limited resources they have, they're giving Russia curb-stomping, aren't they? Gen. Smith: I would say they are. Sen. Kennedy: In fact, with their limited resources, they've knocked out 40% of Russia's oil export capacity. Since January, using their drones and limited cruise missiles, they've hit oil and gas facilities within Russia over 100 times. Not on the border, within Russia. Right? Gen. Smith: Yes, sir. Sen. Kennedy: And Putin was so scared, he almost had to cancel Russia's military parade, didn't he? Gen. Smith: I will take your word for that, sir. Sen. Kennedy: Okay.

Putin’s armor is cracking. Even the Kremlin-controlled VCIOM is now showing a sharp increase in dissatisfaction with the Russian regime — the lowest ratings since 2022. Important: this does not mean Russians oppose the war. It means the Russians dont repect a Tsar who cannot win it. Historically a huge problem for Russia’s leaders. Read: good news Take screenshots before they adjust the numbers.
