Recently, someone challenged me to explain every book I've written. 14 of them (and counting)... By the grace of God, these resources have reached millions of people. And the need for organizational health is just as real today as it was on day one. If you have read any of my books, do you have a favorite? (or least favorite?)

One of the most underrated forces in team culture is peer pressure. I know, the phrase has some baggage. But on a healthy team, it's one of the most powerful tools you have. Teammates notice each other's work, they cheer for each other, and they care enough to say, "I know you can do better." If you want to go deeper into this, I'd encourage you to pick up The Five Dysfunctions of a Team.

Easy consensus can be one of the most misleading reactions a team can have. If the decision really matters, but there's no wrestling in the room, that should concern you as a leader. Tough calls take real effort from a team. When they don't go there, it's almost always a lack of healthy conflict. And a lack of healthy conflict is almost always rooted in a lack of trust. Next time you hear crickets on a high-stakes call and just see heads nodding, don't move on. Lean in and go deeper.

The best predictor of a company's success isn't just strategy. It's also whether people are in seats where the work is actually fun for them. Working Genius Podcast — Ep 112: Working Genius is Fun bit.ly/42kYazl

A team that never argues isn't aligned. It's avoiding the topics that really matter. The healthiest teams I've worked with debate hard, then leave the room on the same page. Not because they had to agree, but because they trusted each other enough to actually disagree.

We were told work and fun don't go together. Honestly, that's as wrong as you can be. The best work I've ever done almost never felt like work. Time sped up. Energy came from the work itself. That's what working in your Working Genius feels like. When we built Working Genius, we had no idea it would have such an impact on marriages. But after hearing from so many couples, we had to do something about it. Short, fun, and real. If you have a perfect marriage, you definitely shouldn't register. But for everyone else, we hope you'll join us. Thursday, June 18. 11am Pacific / 2pm Eastern. Free. Save your spot: bit.ly/4tljcZV

There are a lot of ways to build a team. But there are really only five ways to destroy one. A lack of trust. A fear of conflict. No real commitment. The unwillingness to hold each other accountable. And an inattention to collective results. Get those five right, and almost everything else takes care of itself. If your team is feeling stuck, this is where you should start. Check out my book The Five Dysfunctions of a Team to learn more.

The term "servant leadership" implies there is another kind of leadership. There isn't. Every leader has to be a servant for the people they lead. Drop the qualifier. Just call it leadership.

Most people shouldn't be leaders. Not because they aren't capable — because they're chasing the wrong things. Real leadership is responsibility. Sacrifice. Suffering for others. The question is not "should I be a leader?" It's "how much am I willing to suffer for others?"

Loving someone means telling them the truth about themselves. But when you do, and they insist you're wrong, it's disorienting. That's why these conversations need something objective in the middle. 🎙️ Working Genius Podcast — Ep 111: Working Genius and Blind Spots. bit.ly/4cr3NSB

People can deal with your faults. What they can't deal with is a blind spot you refuse to see, which often turns out to be your Working Frustrations. 🎙️ Working Genius Podcast — Ep 111: Working Genius and Blind Spots bit.ly/4cr3NSB

The most dangerous hire is not the lazy one. It is not the one who cannot do the job. It is the one who lacks humility. They interview well. They say the right things. They often look like the answer. Hire for authentic humility—it'll save you massive headaches down the road.

Humility doesn't mean thinking less of yourself. It means thinking about yourself less. Confident, but not cocky. That's the foundation. 🎙️ At The Table — Ep 266: The Book That Almost Wasn't youtube.com/watch?v=cZpA9b…

There's intelligence and then there's smarts. Not the same thing. Smart means knowing how you come across. Reading a room. Knowing when to talk and when to listen. 🎙️ At The Table — Ep 266: The Book That Almost Wasn't youtube.com/watch?v=cZpA9b…

Before you figure out someone's role, first make sure they actually belong on the team. Humble, Hungry, and Smart. When people lean into all three, everything gets easier. 🎙️ At The Table — Ep 266: The Book That Almost Wasn't youtube.com/watch?v=cZpA9b…

"Are we solving the right thing?" That might be the most valuable question anyone on your team can ask. And it usually comes from a Wonderer. Under stress, those questions spin without landing. The instinct is still good. They just need help finding their way back to their best self. 🎙️ Working Genius Podcast — Ep 110: In the Grip youtube.com/watch?v=wTZHjg…

Your Working Genius doesn't disappear under stress. It becomes a louder, less helpful version of itself. Grace is how we find our way back. 🎙️ Working Genius Podcast — Ep 110: In the Grip youtube.com/watch?v=wTZHjg…
