ICYMI: While the Pentagon under Pete Hegseth went on a record $93 billion spending binge in September 2025—the highest monthly total since 2008, including $2 million on Alaskan king crab and millions more on lobster tails, ribeye steaks, pianos, and luxury furniture during a frantic “use-it-or-lose-it” end-of-year spree—the Trump administration has been cutting or canceling nutrition programs that help feed low-income children. Budget proposals slash $300 million from WIC, eliminate $16 million in school nutrition grants, and cancel the $660 million Local Food for Schools program, which helped schools buy food from local farms. Pentagon contractors and brass feast on five-star seafood while struggling families lose milk, apples, carrots, and hot lunches. That’s not fiscal responsibility.
