1/ My piece for @ProSyn explains why understanding the persistence of the dollar-centric system requires looking beyond the dollar's reserve currency status & appreciating the network effects that keep the dollar on top of the currency hierarchy. project-syndicate.org/commentary/why…

New paper with @degal and @patrickshea_ps!🔓 Ethnic politics matter for sovereign credit outcomes. Using a new measure of ethnic political support, we show creditors punish right-leaning governments for relying on ethnic support, while left-leaning governments are rewarded 🧵1/

I couldn’t have asked for better co-authors. This was one of my favorite teaching/research highlights from UH.

In the spirit of @matt_blackwell 's recent advice, I wanted the students to experience the research process from beginning to end. We collectively came up with an idea and saw the project through to publication.

Thrilled to see this out. This paper started as an informal side-project in my IR seminar as a way to teach the research process.

@ryan_brutger Congrats! I'm glad to see this will be in print soon. I really liked it when you workshopped it for my grad seminar.

I'm happy to share that Tim Marple and I received a conditional acceptance on our article "Butterfly Effects in Global Trade: International Borders, Disputes, and Trade Disruption and Diversion." We learned a lot working on this project and I'm excited to see it come together.

@SchutzAustin My experience from state school depts is that these people help PhDs on the market manage their materials and overall expectations. This can be helpful for PhDs during a stressful time. In terms of impact on placement 🤷

Random article shout out time: This was a good read. Come for the 🔥residual plot about Israeli leaders. Stay till the end for the nuanced discussion of how the authors think about detecting selection verses sexism.

I'm excited that my article with @Ulkar_Imamverdi is out in the newest issue of JCR. Main takeaway: Women leaders do not spend more (or less) on the military than men. 1/ journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.11…

One limitation of our study is that we cannot differentiate between the possibility that men and women have similar preferences on military spending from the possibility that women leaders adopt more hawkish policies to overcome gender stereotypes. 7/
