Was Dr. Ambedkar "one of the earliest proponents of Israel and Zionism in India", as claimed by @sidsids007 ? NO. This is a very cleverly concocted lie which needs to be exposed. I did so last year on 28 June 2025. Here is how this lie was manufactured. I was intrigued by claims of Dr. Ambedkar's alleged "support for the struggle of the Jewish people" and "admiration for the pioneering efforts of the Jews in Palestine “in respect of the Social order that was being created in Palestine". The "source" turned out to be - Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar: Writings and Speeches. Vol - 17. Part - 1. Page 342. I have inserted the link to the pdf here. Go to Page 342 of the book. Link: chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/mea.gov.in/Images/CPV/Vol… The first edition of this 17 volume collected works was published in 1979 by the Education Department of Government of Maharashtra. It was re-printed in 2014 by Dr. Ambedkar Foundation in January 2014 and again in 2019. What was published in this volume wasn't exactly what Dr. Ambedkar had said or published but appears to be an article citing what Dr. Ambedkar had allegedly said. This article appears to have been written by an Israeli official and most likely to be the Israeli Consul General in Mumbai in 1991. This is what it said: //Fifty years ago in a special interview with the editor of a monthly Jewish publication in Bombay (The Jewish Advocate, November 1941), one of the India’s most respected leaders expressed openly his admiration for the pioneering efforts of the Jews in Palestine “in respect of the Social order that was being created there” (in Palestine) as he said. It was none other than the “Father of Indian Constitution” and the Leader of the Depressed Classes in India, Dr. Ambedkar. Dr. Ambedkar whose centenary is being celebrated all over the world, was among the few. In the Indian National Movement who was aware of and consequently sympathised with, the Jewish National Movement in Israel (then Palestine under British rule).// The editors of this volume - Hari Narake, Dr. M.L. Kasare, N.G. Kamble, Ashok Godghate - added a footnote that says: Dr. Ambedkar was interviewed by Glora Becher, Consul of Israel in Bombay—Editors. First, there was no Israel in 1941, when Dr. Ambedkar was allegedly interviewed by the Consul of Israel in Bombay. The Consulate of Israel in Bombay was established in 1953. Babasaheb passed away in 1956. Between 1953 and 1956 the Consuls of Israel in Bombay were: Gabriel Doron (Consul, January 1953 – June 1953) Doron was the first consul when the consulate opened in January 1953. Ehud Ladin (Consul, July 1953 – 1956) Ladin took over from Doron in July 1953 and served for approximately three years. So, there could have been no Glora Beceher as Consul of Israel when Babasaheb was alive. Second, I have not been able to find any newspaper called The Jewish Advocate published from Bombay in 1940s. The only "The Jewish Advocate" was a weekly Jewish newspaper founded in 1902 in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. It served the Greater Boston and New England area and was the oldest continuously circulated English-language Jewish newspaper in the United States until it suspended publication in 2020. It was established by Theodor Herzl, the father of modern Zionism, and run by Jacob de Haas. Its archives are online and I couldn't find an interview of Babasaheb there. The other reference of Babasaheb's support for Jews and Israel in that said article from that volume says: //To understand the specialities Dr. Ambedkar had with the Jewish people one should read his article “Moses and His Significance ” published in the Bombay Sentinel probably the same year, 1941. In this masterpiece of a short essay about the Biblical Leader Moses, Dr. Ambedkar exposes to the roots of his special attitude towards the Jewish people. Due to its importance, I feel it is only appropriate to reprint it once again.// While the Bombay Sentinel did exist as a newspaper in Bombay in 1941, I have not been able to find the archives to verify what is being claimed. It is also strange that the author of this article included in the said volume of Babasaheb's works, had the entire article but did not know which date it was actually published on. My investigation revealed that there was a GIORA BECHER (and NOT GLORA BECHER) who was the Consul General of Israel in Bombay from 1989 - 1992. It was during his tenure that the Israeli Embassy in New Delhi was established. 1991 was the centenary year of Babasaheb's birth. So, it is almost certain that this piece was written as a tribute to Babasaheb by Consul General of Israel in Bombay, GIORA BECHER, in 1991. If that is the case, which certainly it is, this article could not have been included in the first edition of "Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar: Writings and Speeches" which was first published in 1979. Also, it could not have been the editors of the 1979 volumes - Hari Narake, Dr. M.L. Kasare, N.G. Kamble, Ashok Godghate - who had added the footnote that Babasaheb was interviewed by Consul of Israel to Mumbai. Also, what is the article of an Israeli Consul General doing in the Collected Works of Babasaheb? Where is the article Babasaheb allegedly wrote comparing himself to Moses in the Bombay Sentinel? This whole thing reeks of Hasbara skulduggery. Dr. Ambedkar was a prolific writer. He produced monumental volume of works on the subjects he passionately advocated about. And all that could be produced as his support for Israel and Jewish people was second hand claim of an article he allegedly wrote for some obscure newspaper? Also, one must note that even if he had, this was in 1941, years before the Zionists started the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians to establish their genocidal settler colony on land belonging to the Palestinian people. Dr. Ambedkar's life and worldview unambiguously stood in solidarity of the historically oppressed and for human dignity. He was also a fastidious constitutionalist. It would be an insult to even insinuate he would ever support a genocidal state run by war criminals. Note: I would be writing a more elaborate piece on this as I have only started digging into this. There is also one piece of advice Dr. Ambedkar gave us all: To apply our minds and not swallow nonsense being fed to us uncritically.

Bring back real Indian feminism 💞
