@juss_a_dude @kylegriffin1 The Supreme Court has ruled previously that this is not okay, and in those rulings set out guidelines that lower courts should apply to these cases. The district court followed those. The Supreme can change its mind with new rules, but didn't do that either. Thus, the dissent.

That doesn’t make sense. SCOTUS goes opposite of lower courts all the time. Just as appellate courts appeal decisions by lower courts, etc. “We should just do what the court below us did” is not a good dissent. What would be the point of appeals. Did you read any of the actual decisions?

Scathing dissent from Justice Kagan: "[T]his Court reverses that judgment based on its perusal, over a holiday weekend, of a cold paper record. We are a higher court than the District Court, but we are not a better one when it comes to making such a fact-based decision. That is why we are supposed to use a clear-error standard of review—why we are supposed to uphold the District Court’s decision that race-based line-drawing occurred (even if we would have ruled differently) so long as it is plausible. Without so much as a word about that standard, this Court today announces that Texas may run next year's elections with a map the District Court found to have violated all our oft-repeated strictures about the use of race in districting. Today's order disrespects the work of a District Court that did everything one could ask to carry out its charge—that put aside every consideration except getting the issue before it right. And today's order disserves the millions of Texans whom the District Court found were assigned to their new districts based on their race. Because this Court's precedents and our Constitution demand better, I respectfully dissent."

@CynicalPublius @cajunlmt337 I'm pretty sure I remember briefings when I was in the service with the exact some message "you must refuse illegal orders" Of course, it doesn't say who decides which ones are illegal, which makes the whole thing kinda useless...

@cajunlmt337 Ummm.... Ratbrain? Falsely treating a lawful order as being unlawful is a violation of the UCMJ, and encouraging such unlawful behavior is the very textbook definition of sedition. Try to keep up. Now scram, Feces-4-Brains. Git.

@grahamneray @GergelyOrosz I'd argue that discussions about the candidates previous accomplishments do a lot more to prove their skills than the silly code tests we like for software jobs.

A common complaint about tech interviews is how it asks to prove your skills... but professions like accounting, medicine don't do this! Be careful what you wish for: accounting, doctors & similar white collar jobs hire based on pedigree (school, past workplace) + warm referrals
David Reis@dave_reis

@xnimorz @GergelyOrosz This is common. Doctors are not asked to operate to get a job.

@grahamneray @GergelyOrosz The same thing they do in other industries- try to understand the problems the candidate has faced, the approach they took to solving them, and the accomplishments they delivered in the process.

@grahamneray @GergelyOrosz Because it doesn't do that. There is no thirty minute code test you can do that will accurately show whether a candidate can function as a senior engineer. Notice that training for the interview is an industry- it tests something other than your work skills

Ive stepped over pools of blood from a dead person in front of my parking garage twice in the last 3 years. One morning I couldn’t workout because gang bangers shot the windows out of my health club. Just last Sunday a kid from the trading floor got shot in the side of the head(gonna make full recovery I think) in the west loop. I can no longer ride the blue line L because it is a homeless encampment populated by aggressive and dangerous mentally ill drug addicts. I’ve seen people pummeled on the L and I’ve had to get off 3 times and take an uber from “medical emergencies” that turned out to be dead people…point is, if you’re some pampered upper crust activist who’s protesting federal help to make people safe you are a hateful cruel sociopath…

@nareshshah139 @GergelyOrosz The logical thing to do when your revenue per employee goes up is to hire more. The last 70 years that cycle has played out countless times, always with the same result.

Of the 10 most valuable companies in the world, 7 employ more software engineers than any other role (NVIDIA, Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, Google, Meta), 2 are hardware (Broadcom, TSMC) and 1 is oil (Saudi Aramco). Getting into 7/10 of these is "easiest" as a software eng.

@kagpt2023 @charliekirk11 The EO that sparked the injunction is a good example. This ruling says that each individual affected by the EO would have to file their own lawsuit. Turns out, not everyone has equal access to file lawsuits.

An actual quote from a SCOTUS expert who understands the current court well: “This is an unbelievable bloodbath for KBJ.” “It’s really a huge problem for the court to have 1 of 9 members essentially intellectually disabled from even adequately faking the ability to perform the job." Joe Biden explicitly picked KBJ for reasons of DEI rather than merit. Now, he has seriously injured the highest court in the land, but his own cause most of all. What an embarrassment.

The Right to assemble and protest does not include a license to attack law enforcement officers, or to impede and obstruct our lawful immigration operations. We are thoroughly reviewing the evidence from yesterday’s incident in Los Angeles and we are working with the US Attorney’s Office to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice. The days of chaos ruling the streets are over. Either obey the law, or go to jail, there’s no third option.

It takes days or weeks to obtain a single warrant for a single criminal search. Requiring a warrant for Border Patrol to conduct an interdiction of an illegal alien is an act of legal insurrection against national sovereignty. Never in the history of our country or any country has a criminal judicial warrant been required to stop a foreign trespasser from invading your territory. Congress, indeed, has explicitly EXCLUDED all such procedures for alien removals. This is madness.

@Dee_Hunter @fatherbraids @LeadingReport Right. Adding 200% tarrifs to everything is going to raise prices much more than covid did. Your main point though- you could have tarrifs or sales taxes that repla e income taxes. The government gets the same number of dollars, but the distribution of who they come from changes
