On June 13, 2023, Sean and I set out in our new adventure of moving to Foster City, a place we’d never lived, and taking jobs in the Bay Area. At the time, this was one of the scariest decisions we’ve ever made. Leaving the only city we knew, leaving our kiddo, family and friends caused many a sleepless night. Yesterday marked my one year anniversary as assistant superintendent for Los Lomitas. I have to day this was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made! The people I work with and work for our student centered and believe in diversity, equity and inclusion. It’s not just a box we check off. Sean has been able to work five minutes from our apartment and gets to have lunch with a view of the bay everyday. Not too shabby! We love our new city and new jobs. Although we still miss our family and friends back home, this decision has changed our lives for the better. ❤️ My advice to you is to take the chance if you are looking for a change. Life is short. Take the new job, move to a new city, take the trip, try something new.

@stuartpackard I, too, began as a sixth grade teacher, but in 1984. I spent ten years as a teacher and often feel they were my best years in education.

I retired one year ago after 35 years in education. This past week I received a message from a student I had 34 years ago. Her son is in 6th grade. She hopes her son's 6th grade is as good as hers. You may never know your impact, then it may take 34 years. Respect our educators.

Tonight I submitted my letter of resignation/retirement effective June 30, 2023. 35 years in the making, it included 4 districts, 1,000s of students, 100s of staff, close from the roles of teacher, VP, Principal and 12 years as superintendent, & most important, 1 supportive wife.
