@AngusJBA Belmont has some of the worst morning car traffic I've ever seen. I love buses, but they're least suited to the time they're most needed. Let's try to build the Belmont MCRT segment quickly, and try to get Waltham to connect theirs

An hour from Belmont Center to downtown Boston means the MBTA is in crisis, so what does it mean when highschoolers have to get on their buses an hour before class, in a town where you can't be more than a couple miles from the school? And we wonder why everyone is driving...

@AngusJBA hey i am super interested in this - did you find/do some analysis here or is this based on a few examples you saw? i got some data from assessors but haven't done much with it

Property taxes can be very regressive. Discrepancies between assessed value and sale price give one expensive Belmont home an almost 60% discount on property taxes (assessed $1.2m, sold $2.9m) while units under $1m are more often overvalued than undervalued (from June sales data)

@profmarylewis @Belmont_Ma what intersection? i just saw a cyclist run a red light from brighton turning left onto concord which seemed suicidal to me (did not appear to slow down enough to look, i was waiting on my bike to make the same turn)

@paulmcd From my understanding at the warrant briefing, the broader restoration is already funded under CPA, and this is to cover an additional cost due to unforeseen window damage. It supports the historic value of the building and isn't super expensive compared to other line items.

@AngusJBA i was confused about the window restoration project at first. Does it fall under CPA bc the building is a historic building? all else being equal I'd prefer CPA funds go to town-owned land/buildings which this is not. but I don't know much about the building's operation/use

YES on preserving historic objects in our Library YES on funding restoration at the Belmont Women's Club Funding under the Community Preservation Act is essential to our community and I look forward to seeing the impacts of this work over the next few years! (2/2)

@ElleryKlein i think he's explaining it rather poorly, but surely road design influences driver behavior, no? and most roads are built such that they invite/encourage folks to drive faster than would be safe / faster than posted speed limits. would be great to change that

Belmont HS this AM - great to see how many kids are biking to school. Biking provides a huge amount of freedom and independence to kids. We need to continue enhancing safety measures throughout town so walking or biking is a viable option for more people.
